JACK PERRY RETURNING TO AEW "IMMINENTLY"

Jonathan EscuderoComment

Jack Perry is on his way back to AEW, according to a new report from The Wrestling Observer.

Jack Perry's match against Shota Umino has ignited a flurry of discussions within the wrestling community, as Perry found himself caught in a whirlwind of cheers and boos during his final New Japan Pro-Wrestling appearance.

Witnesses inside the arena noted a mixed reaction to Perry's performance, with some indicating a prevalence of cheers, while others perceived a stronger chorus of boos, particularly evident on television.

The backdrop of this match saw AEW airing footage of Perry's altercation with C.M. Punk at All In London. This added an extra layer of intrigue to his reception. Despite expectations that Perry would face a torrent of boos following the incident, the reality proved to be far more nuanced. Perry embraced his role as the heel, eliciting a response that defied the anticipated consensus, even in CM Punk's hometown of Chicago.

As Perry prepares to embark on his journey with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), questions loom regarding the sustainability of his polarizing reception beyond the confines of Chicago and the immediacy of the moment. While his ability to elicit strong reactions is undeniable, the true test lies in his capacity to maintain momentum and resonate with audiences on a broader scale.

Despite the uncertainties surrounding his reception, Perry's instinctive maneuvers and robust merchandise sales signal a promising foundation upon which to build. As he transitions to AEW, all eyes will be on Perry as he navigates the complexities of his new environment and seeks to solidify his place in the competitive world of professional wrestling.

With his final New Japan match serving as a prelude to his imminent debut in AEW, Perry's journey is poised to captivate audiences and spark further debate among wrestling enthusiasts. Stay tuned for further updates as Perry's story unfolds in the days and weeks ahead.

Update on Rossy Ogawa's Marigold Being in Working Relationship with WWE

Jonathan EscuderoComment

In the latest development surrounding Rossy Ogawa's ambitious wrestling venture, Dream Star Fighting Marigold, additional details have emerged from the Wrestling Observer regarding the partnership with WWE, shedding light on the depth of collaboration and shared vision between the two entities.

While the exact nature of the relationship between Marigold and WWE remains somewhat ambiguous, it is evident that both parties are committed to working together to achieve mutual success. Paul Levesque and Ogawa recently convened to solidify the terms of their collaboration, signaling a promising step forward in their strategic alliance.

Dave Meltzer reports that in late 2023 discussions between Ogawa and Levesque began about the possibility of collaboration, with plans taking shape once Ogawa expressed his intention to launch his own promotion. The presence of Giulia at NXT Stand and Deliver further underscored the burgeoning partnership between Marigold and WWE.

Giulia's involvement in both NXT and Marigold represents a pivotal aspect of the collaboration, with plans for her to serve as a cornerstone of both organizations. While logistical hurdles such as obtaining a new working visa are still being addressed, there is a clear commitment to integrating Giulia into the fabric of both promotions.

Contrary to initial speculation, Giulia's tenure with Marigold and NXT is envisioned as a long-term arrangement, with plans for her to eventually transition to NXT on a full-time basis. However, her continued involvement with Marigold underscores the symbiotic relationship between the two promotions, with opportunities for cross-promotional collaboration and talent exchange.

It's worth noting that while WWE has expressed support for Marigold and its endeavors, they do not hold an ownership stake in the promotion, nor is there financial investment from WWE in Marigold. Ogawa retains full ownership of the promotion, highlighting the collaborative nature of the partnership while preserving Marigold's autonomy and creative direction.

WWE's proactive approach to partnering with Marigold was evident when they flew Giulia and Rossy Ogawa to WrestleMania to finalize a deal. Ogawa's ambitious plans for Marigold include bringing in top talents like Iyo Sky and Kairi Sane for a major show scheduled for this summer. Although visa issues may present obstacles, there is optimism that Giulia will work with both Marigold and WWE before potentially relocating to the United States with her family.

Marigold's debut show, scheduled for May 20 at Korakuen Hall, promises to be a blockbuster event, with a main event featuring Giulia and a mystery partner facing off against Sareee and another mystery partner. The overwhelming demand for tickets, resulting in an instant sell-out, underscores the anticipation surrounding Marigold's inaugural show.

Among the roster announcements, Marigold has introduced an impressive lineup of talent, including established names like Utami Hayashishita, Mirai, Nanae Takahashi, and Mai Sakurai. Additionally, six women from the Actress Girl’z promotion will join the ranks, bringing a diverse range of skills and personalities to the roster. Notable newcomers, such as Rozilla, Myla Grace, and Zayda Steele, are set to make their mark as full-time foreign competitors, adding depth and excitement to Marigold's offerings.

As Marigold embarks on its journey to redefine the wrestling landscape, fans can look forward to an exhilarating fusion of athleticism, storytelling, and international collaboration. With the backing of WWE and a roster brimming with talent, Marigold is poised to make a significant impact on the world of professional wrestling in the months and years to come. Stay tuned for further updates as Marigold prepares to make its mark on the industry.

I’m #AlwayzReady for a comeback!”

AEW Dynamite Results 04-17-2024

Jonathan EscuderoComment

Jon Moxley opens the show as IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. Inspirational promo where he talks about how his hard work has led him to the title.

Moxley calls out the Don Callis Family for putting a hit on Bryan Danielson. Mox wants Hobbs specifically. Next week on Dynamite.

Mercedes Mone says she thinks Julia Hart attacked her because the lights went out before she got hit. Sound logic tbh

Willow Nightingale is taken out backstage before she can team with Adam Copeland in the next match

  • BRODY KING AND JULIA HART DEF. WILLOW NIGHTINGALE AND ADAM COPELAND

Adam Copeland fights off a beatdown until Willow Nightingale finally makes her way out and gets hit with a steel chain behind the ref's back. Julia puts the KO'd Willow in a submission for the win.

Mercedes Mone saves Willow from further damage. But she’s still not sure if Willow was the person who attacked her or not.

Joe does an interview with Renee saying he used to consider Swerve a contender for the title but he’s just a nuance now. Joe pounds on him and he keeps getting back up. Those are not the qualities of a champion. Those are the qualities of a punching bag.

AEW is playing an FTR video package when the EVPs cut it off claiming the show is too stacked and they needed to cut it for time. Tony Khan is left on screen looking confused.

  • THE ELITE DEF. RED DEATH TRIANGLE(DANIEL GARCIA, PAC AND PENTA)

Pretty fun trios match. At one point Matt Jackson has decided the commentary is not putting him over enough(except for Taz who he says is doing a great job).

Matt does the commentary himself for the entire picture and picture break.

Towards the end of the match, PAC challenged Okada to come fight him and Okada just screams “I’m not legal!”. Okada pins Garcia with a Rainmaker and the Elite try to kill Garcia until PAC saves him.

Jericho is out to brag about how much Hook NEEDS to listen to him and sit under his “learning tree”. He says everyone who's come into the “Jericho Vortex” has come out of the other side a better person. He tells Hook he can get him to the top.

Hook refuses.

Jericho calls Hook stupid and Taz steps in. Jericho calls Taz dead weight in Hook's life. Jericho tells Hook he is not as good as he thinks he is. Taz goes to say something and Jericho shoves him down. Hook grabs him up. Kicks him out of the ring.

Renee interviews Swerve to ask for his response to Samoa Joe. Swerve says he shouldn't be answering to Renee. He should answer to Joe. Swerve wants to see Joe in the ring TONIGHT.

  • DEONNA PURRAZZO DEF. MARIAH MAY

Great match with subtle plot development for Toni Storm vs Mina Shirakawa in there, if you knew what to look for.

Toni and Mariah begin to beat down Deonna Purrazzo. Thunder Rosa SMOKES Luthor on her way for the save. Stiff strikes to Toni Storm as well. Purrazzo is about to fight Rosa for saving her when Mariah takes her out instead.

Bullet Club Gold challenged The Acclaimed for AEW Trios vs ROH 6 Man Titles at AEW Dynasty.

The Acclaimed accept!

  • ORANGE CASSIDY DEF. SHANE TAYLOR

Pretty good David vs Goliath match but the meat was in the post match angle. OC begins to get jumped by STP and Christopher Daniels, plus some others are out to help. They each get taken out by TRENT who allows STP to continue the beat down on Orange.

  • WILL OSPREAY DEF. CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI

What a freaking display of professional wrestling. Ospreay and Claudio performed exactly how you would expect. Post match saw Ospreay leave the ring and then Callis Family jumping Claudio. Ospreay doesn’t seem to approve but Moxley comes out before Ospreay can do anything about it.

Ospreay screams at the Don Callis Family as they’re leaving. Letting them know attacking Claudio was uncalled.

I honestly forgot this was happening as it started at 7:01pm. Swerve calls out Joe. Does a super stomp and takes out all security guards to allow them both to brawl.

Joe does end up with the upper hand again and lays out Swerve to close the show. Awesome closing segment.

Speaking about Marigold's potential relationship with WWE, Ogawa remarked, "Maybe it will become a (WWE) ranch.'' This cryptic statement hints at the prospect of a collaborative endeavor between the two wrestling entities.

Ogawa further elaborated on his sentiments, expressing gratitude towards WWE for their support. He stated, "(WWE) has been very good to me. I think they're buying into what I've been doing to raise Iyo, Kairi, and Julia."

This acknowledgment of WWE's recognition of Marigold's talent underscores the growing synergy between the two organizations.

Rossy Ogawa and Giulia were in town during WrestleMania weekend, fueling speculation about a potential working relationship between WWE and Marigold. This visit suggests that discussions are underway to explore collaboration opportunities between the two wrestling promotions.

One of the key aspects of this potential partnership revolves around Giulia, a prominent wrestler associated with both Marigold and WWE.

While it's believed that Giulia's time will be divided between NXT and Marigold, there have been previous reports from Fightful indicating her expected WWE in-ring debut at NXT Heatwave.

However, according to the Wrestling Observer, the uncertainty surrounding Giulia's visa arrangements and potential obstacles could impact the timeline of her debut.

The prospect of a partnership between WWE and Marigold presents exciting opportunities for both parties. For Marigold, it signifies an opportunity to expand its reach and exposure on a global scale, leveraging WWE's vast platform and resources.

Meanwhile, for WWE, collaboration with Marigold could provide access to a pool of talented wrestlers and unique storytelling opportunities in the burgeoning women's wrestling scene.

Tony Khan and The Young Bucks Comment on All In Footage; No Regrets to be Found Here

Jonathan EscuderoComment

During an interview with the Chris Russel show, Tony Khan was asked if he regrets airing AEW All In footage. He described his thought process behind the segment:

"I think it made a lot of sense. First of all, the Young Bucks-FTR ladder match is coming up at AEW Dynasty for the World Tag Team Championships. This is the fourth chapter in FTR-Young Bucks. I believe they are the two greatest tag teams in wrestling, the two best on the planet. The last time they wrestled, Young Bucks-FTR 3, was at Wembley Stadium, AEW All In.

A lot happened that day. Those guys at one point, they were the third match on the pay-per-view, and at one point, it looked like we were going to have to call them up and they were going to have to wrestle the first match. They ended up going on in the spot they were in, but the Young Bucks said the whole day, everything that happened, it affected their mental preparation, they weren't able to pray before the match, they were very stressed out.

They slipped on the banana peel, lost the match, and they blame FTR and what happened at Wembley Stadium. In hindsight, that's why they refused to shake FTR's hands. We've seen the Young Bucks change a lot. We saw them get really dark during the retirement run of Sting. They've only gotten darker and more twisted. That's why they felt like they should play the tape.

It was fascinating to see after the tape played, the reaction Jack Perry got at New Japan. He got the reaction of a superstar. That is not altogether unexpected and it's something very interesting, perhaps a side effect of this, Jack Perry already a big star in wrestling, really the way the crowd connected with him in Chicago, that was interesting. It leaves a lot of intriguing going into AEW Dynamite and AEW Dynasty."

Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, the Young Bucks also discussed the decision to air the All In footage. Matthew, noted that the two of them and Jack Perry were wronged the night of the incident, and he had not gotten over it.

“Since we are wrestling FTR at Dynasty, and with it being the first time doing that since All In London, so many feelings and thoughts came rushing back. Old wounds were reopened. We decided it was only fair to be transparent and honest with our fans. We needed to give them context about why we feel we came up short at All In London. Our bodies were there in the ring wrestling FTR at Wembley, but our minds were in the back with the scapegoat in the entire situation, Jack Perry. The three of us specifically were wronged that night, and I haven’t gotten over that,"He’s been the next breakout star for a while now and he just needed something controversial to happen to him to open people’s eyes. It happened with us early on in our careers, too," Nicholas Jackson said.

Matthew Jackson recalled bringing Jack Perry to AEW years ago. He mentionedthat Perry has a lot of confidence, and Jack reminds him of himself and Nicholas. Matthew also predicted that Perry was ready to take the next step:

"Jack Perry was one of my original AEW hires. I saw a video clip of him on the indies, and then I went and watched everything I could find. Years prior, I’d heard stories about a nine-year-old boy being brought to wrestling training in Southern California by his celebrity dad Luke Perry. I wondered, whatever happened to that kid? Apparently, he’d been working hard and turning into a heck of a talent. I watched the videos and thought, ‘Whoa. Young, handsome SoCal kid with a great head of hair. Seems misunderstood. Has tons of confidence. He reminds me a lot of me and Nicholas at his age.’ Coming back from Japan, Jack Perry now has that edge and swagger. Coming off all of this BS he’s been dealing with, he has a chip on his shoulder. He’s a dangerous cat right now and is about to blow up," Matthew said.

AEW Dynasty will take place in St. Louis this Sunday, 04-21-2024.

Rhea Ripley's Injury Update: Recovery, Cause, and Internal Response

Erick Rowan Pulled From Independent Event For 'New Contractual Commitments'

Nicholas LaroccoComment

Erick Redbeard, formerly known in WWE as Erick Rowan, was recently announced to have withdrawn from an upcoming East Coast Professional Wrestling (ECPW) show.

ECPW posted the following message on their Facebook page:

“We have just received word this evening from Erick Rowan that unfortunately he will not be able to make his scheduled appearance next week at Coal Town Carnage.

Erick stated that new contractual obligations are preventing him from making several dates including ours.

This is the first time in ECPW history that one of our scheduled stars cancelled and it is out of our control.”

Erick Rowan is best known for being an original member of WWE’s Wyatt Family stable where he partnered with the likes of Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper/Brodie Lee, and Braun Strowman. Rowan is a multi-time Tag-Team Champion in WWE, but was released on April 15, 2020 during the initial wave of talent budget cuts in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

He wrestled briefly in AEW, including an appearance on the “Brodie Lee Celebration of Life” episode of AEW Dynamite on December 30, 2020. Rowan returned to WWE for one night on the August 25, 2023 episode of WWE SmackDown in a segment dedicated to the memory of Bray Wyatt.

With recent teases on WWE television that seemingly indicate the return of the Uncle Howdy character, alongside other ideas and creations of Bray Wyatt, many wrestling fans on social media are conjecturing that Erick Rowan’s “contractual commitments” are indicative of a potential return to WWE.
