AEW Dynamite 4-9-2025

Jon Moxley and the Death Riders start off Dynamite with a backstage video. Jon Moxley wants to know why so many wrestlers want to become power players.

Mox calls himself a king on the frontlines and that he doesn’t recognize who the Young Bucks are anymore, but that they need to be real careful before they make any moves.

Jon Moxley def. Katsuyori Shibata

Mox and Shafir then come out through the crowd for the opening contest. Representing The Opps, Katsuyori Shibata comes to the ring alone. Shibata keeps out-wrestling Moxley so the referee has to stop the match after Shibata gets caught in a choke by the world champion!

After the match, the Young Bucks enter the ring. Mox says something to them as the Death Riders leave.

The Young Bucks answer the question of why they prevented Swerve from winning the title. It’s because they did it… for the Hangman!?

Young Bucks consider what they did for Moxley as a peace offering for the Death Riders.

The Bucks want the Death Riders to come back out and talk business. Instead… Kenny Omega comes out! Omega reminds the Bucks about how “dookie” AEW was when they tried running AEW without him as the crowd starts a dookie chant.

Omega reveals the documents the Bucks were shredding were just receipts for their own personal greed. Omega seemingly forgets his lines, but that’s okay because he wants to fight them for what they did to him and to his company!

As Omega storms to the ring, Kazuchika Okada makes his way down to ringside. No chance for a 3 on 1 as we hear “WHOSE HOUSE!?” Swerve and Nana rush in through the crowd with a chair, looking for payback from Dynasty.

Swerve Strickland def. PAC

Swerve says it’s BUCK HUNTING season and Swerve wants to hunt for some EVPs. Before Swerve can say much, PAC jumps Swerve from behind.

Swerve fights back and Pac seems to hurt his ankle (gets checked by the ringside doctor). Swerve hits a thrust kick and the Swerve stop to quickly end the match as Pac is helped away from the ring.

Swerve puts everyone on notice and says he’s not a hard man to find!

Hangman barges into Swerve’s locker room to find Strickland who isn't there. Hangman wants to make things clear that he has no intention to help Swerve and threatens Nana.

Nana wants to apologize to Hangman for everything, but Hanger yells at Nana and doesn’t allow him the chance to apologize.

$400,000 8-Man Tag: Speedball, Knight, Ospreay & Briscoe def. Cru, Mortos & Ricochet

THIS MATCH IS PANDEMONIUM!!! All eight guys take to the skies at different points, but also aren’t afraid to throw strikes. At one point, everyone is on the outside and Ricochet flips out towards them… only Kevin Knight, Will Ospreay, Mark Briscoe, and Speedball Bailey hit the rare QUADRUPLE BALD HEAD SLAP onto Ricochet!!!

The team of Speedball, Knight, Ospreay, and Briscoe get the victory in a wild, fun match!

MJF comes out to “celebrate” with the Hurt Syndicate

MJF lines up next to Shelton Benjamin and acts as if he’s one of the Hurt Syndicate… even saying “WE HURT PEOPLE!” MJF and Bobby Lashley start getting into each others faces and yelling, but MVP and Shelton pull them apart. MVP says Max needs to get 3 Thumbs up from the members. MVP gives a thumbs up, but Shelton and Bobby’s thumbs are down.

Shelton and Bobby take their titles and walk off. MVP shrugs to Max, as MJF is frustrated. Max begins strategizing for what he will do next…

Owen Hart Women’s Tournament: Kris Statlander def. thunder rosa

Owen Hart Women’s Tournament: Kris Statlander def. Thunder Rosa

Timeless Toni Storm comes out on commentary for this battle between two of AEW’s top women’s wrestlers. Statlander relies on her power, but Thunder Rosas strikes and experience are enough to keep up as Toni Storm keeps making the commentary team laugh.

It is near fall after near fall. Stat makes a comeback and hits Staturday Night Fever to secure her semi-finals spot. She will take on the winner of Jamie Hayter and Billie Starkz.

Chris Jericho and the Learning Tree are out. Big Bill stands up to Jericho, throwing Bryan Keith under the bus with him, but says they will walk away if Jericho berates them. Jericho is “not mad, he’s just disappointed…” and he repeats this while destroying the set.

Jericho says it’s probably best for him to leave as he abandons Keith & Bill...

The Opps def. The Death Riders

Joe and Hook come out in matching gear as each side has a big man and a smaller, technically proficient partner. Hook takes Yuta to suplex city, before Claudio traps Hook on the apron with a double foot stomp. From here, the Death Riders keep working on Hook in a 2v1.

Joe and Hook fight back, but Moxley runs in to distract until Shibata traps the World Champion in a sleeper. Joe catches Claudio and Hook makes Wheeler Yuta tapout in the Redrum!

The numbers game is too much as Claudio drops Hook with the equalizer ON A STEEL CHAIR LEG!!! Joe runs in with a chair of his own as the Death Riders flee. Joe takes the mic to say the Opps are coming for the Trios Tag-Team Titles.

International Title Shot 4-Way: Ricochet & Speedball Bailey def. Mark Davis & Orange Cassidy

Controversial finish in the 4-way match for the International Title shot against Kenny Omega. Speedball Bailey had Mark Davis rolled up and Ricochet jumped in on the pin attempt. Due to a double pinfall... BOTH RICOCHET AND MIKE BAILEY GET THE TITLE SHOT!!!!

TBS Championship: (C)Mercedes Mone def. Billie Starkz

Billie had an exceptional showing and she was VERY CLOSE to taking the title! The experience of Mercedes was too much for Billie, though. Mone catches Starkz in the Statement Maker for the win. Billie doesn't lose the match looking bad by any means, though!

AEW Championship: (C)Jon Moxley def. COPE

Match starts backstage where Cope fights Moxley through a supply truck and the backstage area. They come out to the ringside area where we get tables, chairs, Mox getting thrown onto Tony Schiavone… and then SPIKE! Cope slams Moxley down onto spike… WHICH STAYS EMBEDDED IN MOXLEY’S BACK! Death Riders try to attack and help Moxley, but FTR save the day. Cope spears Mox through a table! Shafir stops the pin, but Willow then takes Marina out of the equation.

Nick Wayne & Kip Sabian take down Cope on behalf of Christian Cage. Moxley secures the win. Prince Nana is watching backstage and makes a call to someone… Swerve vs Moxley for the World Championship is now confirmed for Dynasty! As Cope gets back up, Dax Harwood walks out on his partner, Cope, and Willow.

Will Ospreay def. AR Fox

With the storms shifting matches around, we manage to get AR Fox and Will Ospreay in an epic battle where they ABSOLUTELY COOK!!! Fox misses a 450 splash, but Ospreay moves out of the way to secure the Hidden Blade for the victory!

Megan Bayne def. Kris Statlander

Timeless Toni Storm is out on commentary. This is a VERY physical match between two of the strongest women in AEW! Megan Bayne rolls up Stat for the victory. After the match, Toni Storm tapes up her fists and gets in the ring where Storm & Bayne fight! Security runs in to try and break it up. Toni Storm says that her and Megan "Shall have a date at Dynasty!"

ZERO HOUR: Hologram & Komander def. Lee Johnson & Blake Christian

After a back and forth match, Hologram and Komander show off their team chemistry with dual-aerial moves against Blake Christian and Lee Johnson to secure the win!

ZERO HOUR: Daniel Garcia, Adam Cole, Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly def. Shane Taylor, Lee Moriarty & The Infantry

Daddy Magic joins the commentary team for this match as Adam Cole, KOR, and Roddy Strong of the Undisputed Kingdom join TNT Champion Daniel Garcia to take on ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty and Shane Taylor Promotions. The Opps are watching this from a private box.

This match is pure chaos as STP play the numbers game and swarm Garcia. STP starts getting a little too cocky and the teamwork of the Undisputeds shine through. Garcia locks Moriarty into the Dragontamer while staring down his own partner, Adam Cole.

ZERO HOUR: Chris Jericho vs Gravity - no contest

The match doesn’t even happen as Jericho attacks Gravity with Floyd the bat. Bryan Keith and Big Bill join in on the attack as Bandido runs in to save his brother! It doesn’t do much, as in front of Gravity & Bandido’s own mother and sister, they get attacked. Chris Jericho RIPS GRAVITY’S MASK OFF!!!

Taking advantage of Gravity covering up his face, he cannot defend himself. Aubrey Edwards leads Bandido & Gravity’s family into the ring, but Jericho picks up the bat and threatens the family.

ZERO HOUR: Big Boom AJ, Orange Cassidy, and Mark Briscoe w/ The Rizzler & Big Justice def. MXM Collection and Johnny TV w/ Taya Valkyrie

Big Justice joins Big Boom AJ while The Rizzler accompanies OC. Big Justice and the Rizzler sit ringside to watch the Zero Hour main event as Mansoor steals their double chunk chocolate cookies and throw them to the ground. OC doens’t let this stand!

Taya attempts to interfere until HARLEY CAMERON STOPS TAYA and Johnny TV gets the Powerboom. Mansoor tries to jump AJ, but BIG JUSTICE HITS A POWERBOOM ONTO MANSOOR! Mace chokeslams AJ and tries to go after Big Justice, but Briscoe, OC, and AJ hit the triple powerboom onto Mace to secure the victory!

The Murder Machines come in to try and go for the winners, but Powerhouse Hobbs comes in to even the odds!

Hangman Adam Page def. mjf

Nonpoint summarizes the differences between both men in this feud as we go right into the action. MJF tries playing mind games, but Hangman is all business! Both wrestlers go all in and use their entire arsenal against one another, but each man knows how to counter the other!

At one point, Hangman moonsaulted off the railing and flips MJF into a piledriver, but MJF flips through and then held Hanger in the piledriver position before dropping him on an open chair! Adam Page nails MJF with Angels Wings (with Max landing face first). Hanger hits the Buckshot Lariat for the victory!

TBS Championship: (C)Mercedes Mone def. Momo Watanabe

Mercedes has seemingly met her match as Momo tanks Mone’s offense and finds a way to counter everything Mercedes throws at her! Soon, though, Mercedes finds her stride and gets the better of Momo. Billie Starkz watches and takes notes from a private box.

Mone attemtps the Three Amigos, but Momo counters and does it right back! Great and VERY physical match that comes to an end as Mercedes wins via submission.

Future Title Shot: Swerve Strickland def. Ricochet

Truly, a grudge match. Swerve enters the match with aura and motivation! Prince Nana walks off. That’s okay, because Leslie Jones, Ken Jeong, and numerous celebrities are having the time of their life watching this match!

Prince Nana grabs the robe and puts in on, but Ricochet flies out and hits Nana before taking the robe back. It’s a tug of war for the robe and for the title shot. Following repeated house calls, Swerve secures the #1 contendership AND presents the Embassy robe to Prince Nana.

Continental Title: (C)Kazuchika Okada def. Brody king

Continental Title: (C)Kazuchika Okada def. Brody king

It’s a match of contrasting styles as Okada brings his technical mastery up against the brute force of Big Brody King! This was quite the physical bout. Okada pulls the switcheroo on the ref, diverting the ref’s attention with a steel chair only to use the title on Brody… except it did nothing to the beast.

However, a MASSIVE Rainmaker does the trick as Okada defeats Brody King to retain his Continental title.

AEW Tag-Team Titles: (C)Hurt Syndicate def. The Outrunners

This match was nothing short of a destruction. Shelton Benjamin out-wrestled and Bobby Lashley overpowered Truth and Turbo. Through either luck or the Syndicate getting too confident, Outrunners manage a comeback! It doesn’t last long as Lashley spears and slams both Outrunners so Shelton can secure the pinfall to retain the titles!

Nigel said if the Outrunners win the titles he would call the next Collision in his undies… At any rate, Tony Schiavone rightfully calls Lashley & Shelton the true juggernaut team that nobody will be able to stop and Excalibur agrees.

Falls Count Anywhere for Women’s Championship: (C)Timeless Toni Storm def. Mariah May

In what is called the “Hollywood Ending,” the match starts IMMEDIATELY on the ramp. Mariah May quickly takes Lutha out of the equation, but Toni Storm drops both of them off the ramp onto tables.

Toni and Mariah tape their fists and dip their hands in broken glass!!! Toni, with a crimson mask, finds… THE SHOE! This finale is truly a horror film as the women go back up the stage. As the “Queen of the Ring'“ cast and crew watch on, Toni uses the shoe to gain her payback before hitting Storm Zero on a table that says “The Hollywood Ending” to win!"

On the tron it says… “The End”

International Title: Kenny Omega def. (C)Konosuke takeshita

It’s been a long-time coming as the Alpha meets the Omega one more time. Takeshita repeatedly tries targeting the surgical scars on Omega and also distracting the ref so Don Callis can interfere.

Takeshita meticulously uses a table to damage Omega without slamming him through it. At one point, trying to slam Omega into the table legs. Kenny Omega will not stay down and fights back as the crowd chants “Fight Forever!”

Callis tries to help Takeshita avoid the One Winged Angel, but Omega doesn’t need it and manages to secure the victory AND become the NEW International Champion!!!

Steel Cage Grudge Match: Will Ospreay def. Kyle Fletcher

The match begins with an awesome scene where Ospreay and Fletcher are both on top of the steel cage, on opposite sides, and are staring each other down! It’s a bitter and bloody fight where Ospreay gets a crimson mask early on. Ospreay chops Fletcher so hard, Fletch’s chest busts open.

Each man knows how to counter the other so both guys have to get alternative and start using the cage itself as a weapon! Mark Davis uses bolt cutters to enter the cage with a duffel bag, but Ospreay kicks the door into Davis. Osrpeay pulls out a BARBED WIRE BAT from the bag.

Both guys try using it, but Mark Davis enters the ring and now it’s a 2v1 on Will. Will manages to defy the odds and get Davis back out. Fletch appears to try running away, but surprises Will with the screwdriver. It’s not enough! Will uses it on Fletch on top of the cage and then SPANISH FLY FROM THE TOP!!!

Fletch yells how much he hates Will Ospreay as Will hits the hidden blade and Tiger Driver 91 for the win!

World Championship: (C)Jon Moxley def. Cope… And Christian cage!?

Cope enters the ring as the LA crowd sings his theme song just like they did in Australia! Moxley, alone and with no Death Riders, enters the ring… alone.

Moxley breaks down Cope and yells at Jim Ross that JR saw the beginning and will watch the end of Cope. The Opps are shown watching from a private box. Cope spears Mox through the ropes as both stars start getting desperate. Mox keeps trying to work on Cope’s neck. Bryce Remsburg takes a chair away from Moxley, but Mox kicks Cope into the ref who falls to the outside. Mox wants to con-chair-to Cope, but Adam kicks the chair into Jon’s face.

Wheeler Yuta walks to the ring and is conflicted on who to go after… but hits the Busaiku Knee on Cope. Jay White runs in and attacks Yuta. Switchblade tries to use the briefcase on Mox, but Jon ducks and White accidentally nails Cope with the briefcase. Cope still gets the shoulder up! The playing field is even once more!

3 spears will do it, but a hooded figure stops the match… IT’S CHRISTIAN CAGE!!! He cashes in his contract and now it’s a 3-way match!!! Christian’s attempt was in vain as Moxley catches Christian Cage to secure the victory!

Jack Perry defeats Dustin Rhodes to qualify for the TNT Championship Ladder Match

RUSH vs Deonn Rusman

Deonn looks like a slightly smaller version of Rush.

Rush crushes Deonn.

The local wrestler loses in a one-sided match before stepping on his neck and insulting the weak Americans in the crowd…. UNTIL MJF COMES OUT FOR THE SAVE!

Rush & MJF fight in the ring, through the crowd, and finally in the backstage area while security, wrestlers, and backstage personnel break them up (even Glacier comes by to help)!

After the match, Swerve goes into the ring and the champions are now face-to-face.

Bryan Danielson Announces When His Contract Will Expire

Nicholas LaroccoComment

During an interview on ‘Casual Conversations with The Wrestling Classic,’ Bryan Danielson reveals that his contract expires slightly before All In 2024. Despite this, Danielson says he wants to wrestle at All In and WrestleDream in Washington before he goes part time.

"The big one is Wembley. I want to make it to Wembley. My contract actually expires before Wembley. But I want to make it to Wembley. Because as a wrestling fan — one, last year’s All In was incredible. But then as a wrestling fan, that’s like a defining moment, when the British Bulldog beats Bret Hart. So you think of Wembley almost in these mythical terms.

But I really want to be able to do Wembley and just see what that’s like, see what that feels like. So, yeah, that’s a big one for me.

I’m not sure if I’ll make it, but one thing that would be a nice way to like kind of close everything out for me is to do my last match as a full-time wrestler at WrestleDream at the Tacoma Dome."

Zelina Vega Injured; Pulled from Queen of the Ring Tournament

Nicholas LaroccoComment

General Manager of Monday Night RAW Adam Pearce announced on Twitter/X that Zelina Vega would have to be pulled from the Queen of the Ring tournament due to injury.

“I have a bit of unfortunate injury news: Zelina Vega will not be medically cleared to compete tonight and therefore will be stepping out of the Queen of the Ring tournament, which is unfortunate given her past history as a Queen of the Ring. It would have been nice to see her try to regain that crown. But injury bug strikes again. Which opens the door of opportunity for one Maxxine Dupri, who will receive the biggest opportunity of her young career as she will step in tonight against Shayna Baszler. Once again, Zelina Vega out, Maxxine Dupri in. Anything can happen in WWE and it will tonight. Injuries happen, guys, it’s just the way it is. Changes need to be made and this one is official.” says Adam Pearce

Zelina Vega is the fifth wrestler to not be medically cleared to compete in the King & Queen of the Ring tournaments. She joins Xavier Woods, Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley, and Asuka on the list of uncleared competitors.

Dirt Sheet Radio would like to send well wishes to Zelina Vega and all injured competitors

Kenny Omega Gives His Thoughts on the "Triple H Era" of WWE

Nicholas LaroccoComment

On a recent Twitch stream, Kenny Omega commented on the Paul “Triple H” Levesque era of WWE.

“Everyone seems to know just what he is booking and what he isn’t booking. Even as a wrestler who has kind of like an inside track, I don’t know what his ideas are. I don’t know what’s a result of just what comes from his brain and his brain alone, so I can’t comment to that.

What I do appreciate is that he’s open-minded to all the styles of the world of wrestling. I think I’m sure he probably prefers one over the other or some over others, but I like that he’s giving everything a shot.”

Kenny Omega also discussed his health, plans for surgery, and other considerations on a stream where he played Street Fighter 6 with Michael Nakazawa.

Update on Sammy Guevara's AEW Status

Nicholas LaroccoComment

Following his encounter with Jeff Hardy on the February 16th, 2024 edition of AEW Rampage, Sammy Guevara was reportedly suspended from AEW. However, according to a recent update from Dave Meltzer, Guevara's suspension has been lifted. Despite this, there is no clear indication of when he will return to AEW, with Meltzer mentioning that while there have been ideas proposed, nothing has been finalized.

Guevara, a former three-time TNT Champion, found himself suspended for the second time in his AEW career. The first instance dates back to 2020 when controversial remarks he made about Mercedes Mone came to light from a 2016 podcast.

His most recent suspension stemmed from an incident during his match with Jeff Hardy, where Guevara inadvertently caused a broken nose to Hardy with a knee to the head. Despite the injury, the match continued, with Guevara executing his finisher and securing the victory. It was reported that this deviated from AEW's concussion protocol, as Guevara was instructed to pin Hardy following the injury, which he did not adhere to.

Despite the lack of specific commentary from Guevara regarding his suspension, he expressed gratitude to his fans in a text-only message at the conclusion of a recent vlog.

Erick Redbeard, formerly known in WWE as Erick Rowan, was recently announced to have withdrawn from an upcoming East Coast Professional Wrestling (ECPW) show.

ECPW posted the following message on their Facebook page:

“We have just received word this evening from Erick Rowan that unfortunately he will not be able to make his scheduled appearance next week at Coal Town Carnage.

Erick stated that new contractual obligations are preventing him from making several dates including ours.

This is the first time in ECPW history that one of our scheduled stars cancelled and it is out of our control.”

Erick Rowan is best known for being an original member of WWE’s Wyatt Family stable where he partnered with the likes of Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper/Brodie Lee, and Braun Strowman. Rowan is a multi-time Tag-Team Champion in WWE, but was released on April 15, 2020 during the initial wave of talent budget cuts in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

He wrestled briefly in AEW, including an appearance on the “Brodie Lee Celebration of Life” episode of AEW Dynamite on December 30, 2020. Rowan returned to WWE for one night on the August 25, 2023 episode of WWE SmackDown in a segment dedicated to the memory of Bray Wyatt.

With recent teases on WWE television that seemingly indicate the return of the Uncle Howdy character, alongside other ideas and creations of Bray Wyatt, many wrestling fans on social media are conjecturing that Erick Rowan’s “contractual commitments” are indicative of a potential return to WWE.

Former WWE Champion Big E updated fans on his 2-year neck scan results on Twitter/X.

“Hey, all!

Two year neck scans are in. Things are unchanged. My C1 has healed fibrously but has not formed new bone. I’m not medically cleared and truthfully, I may never be cleared. But I am blessed to be free of pain, immensely happy and otherwise healthy. Life is good.”

On the March 11, 2022 episode of WWE SmackDown, Big E suffered a broken neck following a belly-to-belly suplex from Ridge Holland outside the ring during a tag-team match that saw Big E and Kofi Kingston take on Ridge Holland and Sheamus.

Following his injury, Big E continues to make public appearances and have non-wrestling roles for WWE, such as pre-show panelist. He also appears frequently on WWE’s social media live streams, including throughout WrestleMania XL weekend.

Senior Vice President of Athlete ID & Development Trent Wilfinger has also departed from WWE. Wilfinger had been with WWE since 2021 where he worked directly with Paul Levesque on WWE’s “Next In Line” (NIL) initiatives for training elite collegiate athletes.
