With an impending war brewing, how is Storm preparing for what's coming her way?

*WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!*

An Unwinnable War

Across multiple different locations we see magical beings and undead creatures. With the warning that victories in magic don't always go to the strongest, in the world of magic, "victory belongs to the biggest scoundrel".

Storm is struggling in a fight within her mind it appears, surrounded by a large army of Wanda Maximoffs. Storm tries to freeze her, before escaping the hold she has on Storm. This is the beginning of her training at the Storm Sanctuary. Wanda explains to Storm that while she's strong, the world of Magic needs a different type of strength because nothing is for certain.

Akujin gave Storm five days before she returns to enact her mystical invasion. Wanda shows fear for Storm, but Storm displays her confidence going into this war. Readying up for anything that comes her way. And that begins with sending a message out to everyone in America. Letting them know that she will be away to focus right now on the city of Biarritz who've been struggling. While she's gone she'll have Storm Engines looking over everyone.

At Serpent Valley, Akujin, Iwin and Bogey are discussing the best way to enact their takeover. Throwing around ideas they all disagree with until Bogey comes up with a plan to promise Hero with Vibranium if they can pass through the Underworld for the beginning of their plan.

In Biarritz, France, Storm is tending to the mutants who have lost their homes due to monstrous. But while they're there a mutant and human begin to fight. A battle that not even Armor can break up. Neither side is comfortable with the other one being there causing heavy conflict. The Mutant wants to be separated from the human, but the human sees themselves as in the same boat as the mutant. Losing their home and having nowhere else to turn to.

Storm involves herself in this conflict, bringing the humans in as a sign of respect as they eat croissants and smile. Storm explains to the mutant from earlier exactly why she did that. Because she's learned over the years that mutants that separate themselves from humans instead of trying to work together never works out in their favor. It's only when they work together that change can be made.

That is until a dead body is behind a tree at this sanctuary unbeknownst to them. The body of a mutant.

In the future a floating mouth is warning the people of Earth of their destruction, telling them to surrender and telling them that their protector is in fact gone. Showing what could be a haunting ending to this story.

Conclusion

This issue is the definition of doing a lot of telling instead of showing.

The art in this is being held back by dialogue and scenarios that give them little to work with. While this issue highlighted Storm's loving and welcoming personality well, I feel like this issue accomplished nothing. Yeah, we saw Storm talk a bunch and EXPLAIN how caring she is and proving it by giving out some croissants? Okay? This issue absolutely lost me when I was already one foot in and one foot out.

Issue #1 last month wasn't my favorite what so ever, but at least that issue set up quite a bit of scenarios with some sort of action. Be it that it was super scattered and out of order, but it had aspects of a comic book. I feel like this issue capitalized on zero of those scenarios that were set up. Wanda "training" Storm in the opening pages was the closest thing to entertainment this book had to offer.

Overall: 4/10
