Maki Itoh Departs Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling

Jonathan EscuderoComment

Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling (TJPW) has announced the departure of Maki Itoh, whose contract expired following the Korakuen Hall event on August 23, 2025. After extensive discussions, both Itoh and TJPW mutually agreed not to renew her contract, concluding her tenure with the promotion at the recent event.

Maki said in a statement:

“With the Korakuen Hall show on August 23, 2025, my contract with TJPW has come to an end.

Back when I was struggling as an idol, it was Takagi who discovered me.

I wasn't good at singing or dancing, and I was never that popular-but the one thing I was ever praised for was pro wrestling.

Thanks to TJPW, I was able to spend 8 years and 7 months growing and living alongside this company.

It's all because of TJPW and everyone I've met along the way.

I'll continue wrestling, so I'm sure we'll meet again somewhere down the road!

I'll never forget the gratitude I feel toward everyone who has supported me, and I'll keep treasuring the experience and knowledge I gained here as I move forward.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you fuck you all!”

Itoh, known for her unique character and passionate fanbase both in Japan and internationally, has been a prominent figure in TJPW for several years. While her future endeavors have not been explicitly stated, her departure comes at a time when many Japanese wrestlers have been increasing their appearances and profiles within the United States professional wrestling scene.

Over the past few years, there has been a noticeable increase in appearances by Japanese wrestlers in the United States. Promotions such as All Elite Wrestling (AEW), IMPACT Wrestling, and various independent organizations have actively featured talent from Japan, reflecting a growing interest in and appreciation for the distinct style and athleticism of Japanese wrestling. This trend has provided opportunities for wrestlers to gain international exposure and connect with a wider audience.

The reasons behind this rise in US appearances are multifaceted. For Japanese wrestlers, it offers a chance to broaden their experience, test their skills against different styles, and potentially reach a larger and more lucrative market. Simultaneously, US-based promotions benefit from the unique drawing power and in-ring prowess that Japanese talent brings, adding a different flavor to their shows and attracting fans intrigued by international wrestling. The increasing accessibility of international travel and communication has also facilitated these cross-promotional relationships and individual bookings.

Maki Itoh herself has made several appearances in the United States in recent years, gaining significant popularity with American fans through her involvement with AEW. Her fiery in-ring style and engaging personality resonated strongly, contributing to the broader trend of Japanese wrestlers making a mark in the US. While her departure from TJPW marks the end of a chapter, the current climate suggests that opportunities for her to continue her career, potentially including further appearances in the United States, are likely to be available. The wrestling world will be watching closely to see what the future holds for the beloved "top idol."

Syko Stu Missing Teeth, Left Without Memory on a Breathing Tube After Raja Jackson Incident

Jonathan Escudero1 Comment

An update on the chaotic scene that unfolded at a recent KnokX Pro Wrestling event in Los Angeles, as Raja Jackson, son of MMA legend Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, engaged in a brutal, unscheduled attack on veteran professional wrestler Stuart "Syko Stu" Smith.

The incident, which was captured on video during a live stream on Kick, has resulted in serious injuries for Smith and prompted investigations by both law enforcement and the wrestling promotion itself.

Footage of the altercation shows Jackson entering the ring and forcefully slamming Smith to the canvas. Smith appears to lose consciousness upon impact. Jackson then mounted his opponent and delivered a barrage of over twenty punches to Smith's head before other wrestlers intervened to stop the assault.

One of these interveners, "The Epic" Douglas Malo, a guest on "The Scaling Up Podcast," was present at the event and stated he effectively saved Stu from further harm.

Another wrestler was also seen pinning an unconscious Syko Stu after the initial assault. The podcast discussion also raised concerns that the assault may have been premeditated, with some suggesting Jackson was encouraged to harm Stu.

This in-ring violence followed an earlier altercation where Smith was filmed striking Jackson on the head with a canned beverage. According to a video, Smith had mistaken Jackson for a fellow wrestler. While the precise sequence of events and motivations are still under scrutiny, KnokX Pro Wrestling has labeled the incident a "work that went wrong," suggesting a planned segment that devolved into real violence.

However, the severity of Smith's injuries, which include broken facial bones and lost teeth, casts serious doubt on this initial characterization.

According to Doug, Smith had to be medically induced into a coma due to the severity of his injuries. The hosts also claimed that after the assault, Raja showed no remorse, citing personal issues as a reason for his actions. The wrestling school has been accused of not cooperating with the police.

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson has since issued a public apology for his son's actions, citing a recent concussion Raja had sustained and stating he should not have been participating in any physical activity. In response, the person who intervened to stop the assault has challenged Rampage Jackson to a charity boxing match to raise money for Syko Stu's medical expenses.

In the aftermath, reports have surfaced regarding potential support for Syko Stu. Notably, online personality MrBeast has allegedly offered assistance to Smith, although the specifics and authenticity of this offer are still developing.

The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed they are investigating the incident. Meanwhile, Syko Stu's family has acknowledged the outpouring of support but has also warned against fraudulent fundraising efforts in his name. They have stated that he is in stable but critical condition.

Douglas Malo also noted the long-term consequences of the event, including the trauma experienced by children who witnessed the assault.

The investigations underway will likely focus on the breakdown in protocol, the instigating factors behind the violence, and the accountability of all parties involved.

Olympian Rugby Player Ilona Maher Approached By WWE

Jonathan EscuderoComment

After her turn on Dancing With the Stars last year, rugby star and Olympic bronze medalist Ilona Maher is considering a new kind of spotlight.

She recently revealed to BBC Sport that she’s “been approached before by the WWE,” adding that if she joined the company, her ring name would be “Maher-vellous.” Maher said, “I don’t know if I would [go into wrestling]. I should think about it, there is great money in it,” noting that she also has her eyes on the “acting space.”

Maher's background as a USA Rugby Olympian gives her a unique advantage in any physical role. Known for her powerful tackles and commanding presence on the field, her athletic skillset translates well to the physical demands of pro wrestling.

Beyond her athletic prowess, Maher has also cultivated a large social media following, particularly on TikTok, where her humorous and relatable content has earned her a reputation for charisma and stage presence.

Hulk Hogan Death Potentially Cause by Medical Malpractice

Jonathan EscuderoComment

While the official cause of Hulk Hogan’s death was a heart attack, TMZ reports medical malpractice may have played a significant role. This report, if accurate, could open the door for a massive lawsuit.

According to a police report from the Clearwater PD, an occupational therapist was at Hogan’s home when he stopped breathing. The therapist reportedly told officers that Hogan was a victim of medical malpractice, claiming a surgeon had “severed” his phrenic nerve during a recent operation—it's still unclear if it was for his heart or neck. For those unfamiliar, the phrenic nerve is crucial as it controls the diaphragm and, by extension, breathing. The therapist's statements were allegedly captured on police body camera footage, which is now on "lockdown," but multiple sources have confirmed the contents of the report and the existence of the footage.

Hogan's wife, Sky, was the one who raised the alarm when he stopped breathing, leading to the 911 call. Meanwhile, Hogan's daughter, Brooke, has publicly called for an autopsy. We are told that as of a week ago, his body had not yet been cremated, but the family has not yet released any further information on whether that has changed.

The potential for a legal battle looms large, especially considering Hogan's past. He had previously sued a different medical clinic for $50 million over a botched back surgery that he claimed ruined his ability to earn a living. The case was eventually settled for an undisclosed amount. With his daughter pushing for an autopsy and the alleged body cam footage on file, this situation is far from over.

JOHN CENA'S FINAL MATCH SET FOR 12/13 SATURDAY NIGHT'S MAIN EVENT

Jonathan EscuderoComment

A new multi-year partnership between WWE and NBCUniversal will bring back the iconic "Saturday Night's Main Event" series, exclusively streaming live on Peacock.

The inaugural event is scheduled for November 1, with a special edition on December 13 to feature the highly-anticipated retirement match of John Cena.

This news comes on the heels of another major broadcasting deal, with WWE's Premium Live Events (PLEs) moving to ESPN's platforms beginning in September, ahead of the previously announced 2026 timeline.

While the location for Cena's final bout has not been officially announced, it is widely speculated that it will take place in his hometown of Boston.

WWE's Premium Live Events Headed to ESPN Early

Jonathan EscuderoComment

WWE's Premium Live Events (PLEs) are set to depart Peacock and find a new home on ESPN's direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming service, a landmark move that will start earlier than originally announced. The transition will now begin with a new event titled "Wrestlepalooza" on September 20, 2025, from Indianapolis. The early departure from the Peacock deal, which was scheduled to run through early 2026, was not a buyout. Instead of a financial penalty, WWE will provide new main roster content to Peacock in exchange for being released from the remaining time on the contract.

The five-year agreement with ESPN is reportedly worth an average of $325 million per year, a substantial increase over the $180 million WWE received annually from Peacock. This 81% increase in average annual rights fees is a major financial win for WWE's parent company, TKO Group Holdings.

While WWE will continue to produce shows like Saturday Night's Main Event for NBC and SmackDown for USA Network, the move to ESPN signifies a major shift in how fans will access the company's biggest shows. The new ESPN DTC service, which will be the exclusive home for all WWE PLEs, is expected to cost $29.99 per month. This price point has sparked significant discussion among fans, as it's a considerable jump from Peacock's current subscription tiers, which are significantly cheaper. A major point of confusion for fans is whether those with an existing cable or satellite subscription that includes ESPN will be granted access to the DTC service at no extra cost, with reports indicating it may vary by provider.

ESPN's strategy is to use WWE's passionate fanbase to drive subscriptions for its new service. The company is hoping to replicate the success it has had with the UFC on ESPN+, and views WWE's PLEs as a way to avoid churn during traditionally slower sports months.

AEW Extends Danhausen's Contract For Injury Time

Jonathan EscuderoComment

All Elite Wrestling has reportedly extended the contract of popular wrestler Danhausen, a move that was reportedly made against his wishes. According to a report from Fightful Select, the decision was made due to time he missed from a significant pectoral muscle injury, pushing his deal from its original July 2025 expiration well into 2026.

The extension is tied to a clause in his contract related to time missed due to injury. Danhausen suffered a torn pectoral muscle in March 2023 at the Revolution pay-per-view, which sidelined him for over eight months. The Fightful report notes that it was believed Danhausen had asked the company to not pick up his option and was prepared to leave, reportedly due to a lack of consistent creative plans for his character since his return.

Known for his unique, "very nice, very evil" persona, Danhausen became a viral sensation on the independent circuit before signing with AEW in January 2022. Despite his considerable fan popularity and merchandise sales, he has had infrequent television appearances, with his last AEW match being at the Worlds End pay-per-view in December 2023. This contract extension will keep the fan-favorite under an AEW deal for the foreseeable future.

The list places Dave Bautista at the top, citing his diverse range and ability to take on complex, character-driven roles in films like Glass Onion, Blade Runner 2049, and Dune, rather than just relying on his action-hero persona.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and John Cena follow, with the article acknowledging their massive commercial success and comedic chops, respectively.

The list also gives a nod to wrestling legends of the past who paved the way, including "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Jesse "The Body" Ventura, and André the Giant, who all had memorable and iconic roles that cemented their place in the conversation of wrestlers-turned-actors. The inclusion of names like Adam "Edge" Copeland and Kevin Nash highlights the continued crossover success of wrestlers into the acting world.

WWE's First Triplemania Breaks Records

In a landmark moment for professional wrestling, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide's annual flagship event, Triplemanía XXXIII, shattered company records, signaling a new and prosperous chapter as the first Triplemanía since WWE's acquisition of the promotion. The show, which took place in Mexico City's Arena CDMX, drew a capacity crowd of 19,691 fans, marking the most-attended lucha libre event in Mexico this year and breaking the all-time AAA gate record.

The success wasn't limited to the live gate, as the event also set a new record for merchandise sales. The global reach of the new partnership was on full display as the show was streamed live on both WWE and AAA's YouTube channels in both Spanish and English, amassing more than 4.3 million views within its first 24 hours and hitting a peak live concurrent audience of 614,000.

Additionally, Triplemanía XXXIII generated a record 208 million views across WWE and AAA's social platforms, proving the immense demand and global appeal of the iconic lucha libre brand under its new ownership.

WWE's September 20th Event to be Named WrestlePalooza; May Air on ESPN

Jonathan EscuderoComment

WWE is reportedly set to revive the "WRESTLEPALOOZA" name for a premium live event on September 20, 2025. According to reports from WrestleVotes and PWInsider, the event, which has been rumored for some time, is a direct counter-programming effort against AEW's All Out, scheduled for the same night in Toronto.

This is the latest, and most aggressive, salvo in a rivalry that has intensified over the past few years. While the initial "Wednesday Night Wars" pitted WWE's developmental brand NXT against AEW's Dynamite, WWE has since used its NXT brand to go head-to-head with AEW's major pay-per-views. Examples include NXT Battleground against Double or Nothing in May 2025, and a multi-event "takeover" of Atlanta in July 2025, which included NXT Great American Bash against AEW's All In: Texas.

The decision to use a main roster Premium Live Event—potentially headlined by a high-profile match like Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena—marks a significant escalation. It forces fans to choose between two major shows and is a clear indicator that WWE is taking a more direct approach to competition.

In addition to the in-ring action, PWInsider reports that there is also talk that WRESTLEPALOOZA could air on ESPN, serving as a preview of the company's new broadcast partnership with the network, which begins in April 2026. This would further cement the event as a pivotal moment in the ongoing battle for wrestling supremacy.

Konosuke Takeshita Wins G1 Climax 35 Finals

In a decisive victory at the G1 Climax 35 final, Konosuke Takeshita defeated EVIL, solidifying his status as a top competitor and earning a shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. The match, which took place at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, capped off a grueling tournament that saw both men overcome significant challenges to reach the final.

Takeshita’s journey included a hard-fought semifinal victory over IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr., while EVIL advanced after a controversial referee stoppage win against Yota Tsuji, aided by his House of Torture stablemates. The final match was a physical and intense affair, with Takeshita showcasing his power and athleticism against the tactical and often nefarious style of EVIL.

The dynamics of the crowd at the G1 Climax 35 final were a point of intrigue throughout the event. While Konosuke Takeshita is widely respected for his in-ring talent, his dual contracts with both New Japan Pro-Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling (AEW) created a subtle divide among the Japanese audience. As an international star who is also a significant presence in AEW, some fans viewed Takeshita as an "outsider" rather than a true NJPW homegrown talent.

This sentiment led to some surprising crowd reactions, with parts of the audience at times favoring EVIL, a heel who uses constant interference and underhanded tactics, over the clearly more heroic Takeshita. This complex fan response underscored the unique position Takeshita holds as a wrestler navigating the "forbidden door" between two major promotions, as he had to win over not just his opponent but also a portion of the crowd that was hesitant to fully embrace a champion with allegiances elsewhere.

Konosuke Takeshita and Evil Heading to the Finals of G1 Climax 35

Jonathan EscuderoComment

A shocking turn of events at the G1 Climax 35 semifinals saw Konosuke Takeshita defeat Zack Sabre Jr. to advance to the finals, where he'll face EVIL. Takeshita's victory is a monumental upset, given Sabre's status as the current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion and his previous dominance over Takeshita in the tournament. This win sets up a compelling finale between two of New Japan Pro-Wrestling's biggest stars.

The Road to the Semifinals

The G1 Climax 35 tournament featured 20 competitors split into two blocks, A and B, all vying for a spot in the final four. After a grueling round-robin phase, the final playoff picture was set. EVIL emerged as the A Block winner with 12 points, followed by David Finlay with 10 points. Yota Tsuji, with 10 points, secured the third and final playoff spot from the A Block.

In the B Block, Zack Sabre Jr. finished at the top with an impressive 14 points, securing a bye directly into the semifinals. The other B Block playoff spots went to Shota Umino and Konosuke Takeshita, who both finished with 12 points.

The playoffs began with two high-stakes quarterfinal matches. In the first, Konosuke Takeshita defeated David Finlay in a brutal, table-smashing encounter. Takeshita's perseverance was tested when Finlay powerbombed him through two tables on the arena floor, but he managed to beat the 20-count and rally for the victory. In the second quarterfinal, Yota Tsuji overcame Shota Umino in a hard-fought battle, earning his semifinal spot against EVIL.

The semifinal match between Konosuke Takeshita and Zack Sabre Jr. was a clash of styles, pitting Takeshita's high-impact offense against Sabre's technical wizardry. Takeshita came into the match with an aggravated knee injury, a direct result of his brutal quarterfinal bout with Finlay. This was a crucial factor, as Sabre relentlessly targeted the knee throughout the match, employing a variety of brutal submission holds.

The match was a back-and-forth affair with both men showing incredible resilience. Takeshita, despite his injury, managed to hit his signature moves, including a Poison Rana and the Power Drive running knee. However, it was a previous meeting in the G1 that was fresh on everyone's mind, where Sabre defeated Takeshita via submission. This time, Takeshita was determined to not let history repeat itself.

In the closing moments, Takeshita's power proved to be the difference. He fought through the pain and the submissions, finally landing his finisher, the Raging Fire, to put an end to the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion's G1 run. The crowd erupted as the referee's hand hit the mat for the final time, sealing Takeshita's first-ever G1 final appearance.

Takeshita's monumental victory not only avenged his previous loss to Sabre but also established him as a serious contender for the G1 Climax trophy. The stage is now set for a final showdown against the leader of the House of Torture, EVIL, in what promises to be an explosive main event to determine the winner of the G1 Climax 35. 🏆
