After a week of intense speculation sparked by a leaked WGA card, the rumors have officially materialized into reality. Marvel Studios is actively developing a feature film centered on the cosmic superhero Nova, with Chad Powers creator Michael Waldron tapped to write the script.
Currently in early development, industry sources indicate Waldron is also being heavily considered to direct the project should it receive the final green light.
Originally, the studio had envisioned Nova as a long-form television series with writer Sabir Pirzada penning the script, but that iteration was ultimately shelved in 2025.
Now, the project has been revived as a major theatrical release with a fresh pitch from Waldron leading the charge. Waldron brings extensive MCU pedigree to the table as a key architect of the Multiverse Saga.
He previously served as the creator and head writer of the acclaimed series Loki, penned the blockbuster Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and penned the now cancelled Avengers: Kang Dynasty.
Introduced to comic readers in a 1976 issue of Super Adventures, Nova is a prominent member of the intergalactic police organization known as the Nova Corps. Endowed with the legendary Nova Force, the hero boasts superhuman abilities including enhanced strength, flight, and incredible resistance to injury.
