Finally! There is official promotional art released for Avengers: Doomsday. It’s very exciting seeing teams like the X-Men, The Fantastic Four, The New Avengers and the latest iteration of the Avengers on the cover. However, some fans are not exactly thrilled with the roll out.
Fans expressed their disappointment on social media about the lack of iconic superhero characters such as Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Deadpool and Wolverine among others who are rumored for an appearance in the upcoming anticipated blockbuster.
I don’t want to sound negative, but something about this roster just doesn’t excite me. I wish Jean Grey, Storm, Rogue, Spider-Man, Wolverine and Deadpool were there. I know the last three are in the film, but their role is small and they’re still not really “part of the team” https://t.co/JMIXWMpG4h

RPK himself is one of the most important figures in the Marvel fan space, prompting further response from similar spaces within the fandom. Perhaps, the bigger problem isn’t that they’re upset, but don’t have strong opinions one way or another.
Nowhere to be found but we have to see "Gambit" "Steve Rogers" and "The Thunderbolts" pic.twitter.com/6xJBXQRTpw

There is the lack of team members for the X-Men, notably Jean Grey, Storm and Iceman, and the unappealing roster for the Sam Wilson/Captain America-led Avengers, in which it has Thor, Shang-Chi, Falcon and Ant-Man that makes it feel incomplete. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently told fans in Shanghai at BW2026 that Avengers:Doomsday's character roster is about ‘putting these characters together that should never really be together.’
"That’s what Marvel's all about: assembling heroes that might not get along and forcing them to do what's best for the world,” Feige said. “Seeing the X-Men and the Avengers and the New Avengers and the Fantastic Four together is a dream I never thought would come true."
Sure, Robert Downey Jr. returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe brought a lot of interest, even though he is playing Dr. Doom, rather than reprisal of Tony Stark. However, Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers is not in the Captain America costume and most of the characters on the promotional art were introduced in the current Multiverse Saga of the MCU. The MCU hasn’t gained a major following in the a post-Endgame climate, with a slew of audience or critical duds.
Regardless, the MCU fan base should remember this: Marvel loves surprising the audience with major characters in either trailers, cameos or secret supporting roles that will lead into the future.
Let’s hope the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer is cool enough to change opinions!
