MAZE RUNNER REBOOT IN THE WORKS
"The Maze Runner" is gearing up for a reboot!
Hollywood Reporter exclusively reveals that 20th Century Studios is dusting off the sci-fi action adventure franchise, which captivated audiences from 2014 to 2018 as a trilogy.
Negotiations are underway for Jack Paglen, renowned for his work on the Johnny Depp-starring sci-fi thriller "Transcendence," to take the reins in crafting the script for this fresh installment.
Sources confirm that the reboot is not a mere retread of the original tale, nor a direct sequel to the trilogy headlined by Dylan O'Brien and Kaya Scodelario. Instead, the aim is to craft a seamless continuation of the saga while harkening back to the elements that endeared the franchise to its fervent fanbase.
Fans of the original trilogy will be thrilled to learn that key players from the production team are back in action. Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Lee Stollman of Gotham Group, alongside Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Temple Hill, who helmed the production of the initial trilogy, are on board to produce the reboot. Additionally, Wes Ball, the mastermind behind the director's chair in the original trilogy, will also contribute as a producer, ensuring continuity and authenticity in the franchise's revival.
Based on the gripping novels penned by James Dashner, "The Maze Runner" follows a group of amnesiac teenagers thrust into a mysterious walled enclave known as the Glade. Beyond the safety of their walls lies a labyrinth teeming with lethal mechanical creatures, guarded by doors that seal shut each nightfall. As one newcomer unravels the secret to their survival, a gripping tale of resilience and rebellion unfolds.
The subsequent books and films expanded the narrative horizon, unveiling a dystopian realm rife with corrupt government agencies and nefarious corporations. With each installment, the stakes soared higher, delivering heart-pounding action and unrelenting suspense.
Notably, the inaugural film, produced by 20th Century Fox prior to its acquisition by Disney, proved to be a sleeper hit, grossing a staggering $348 million worldwide against a modest $35 million budget. This unexpected success underscored the enduring appeal and commercial viability of the franchise.
As the gears of production churn anew, anticipation mounts for what promises to be an exhilarating return to the enigmatic world of "The Maze Runner." Stay tuned to Dirt Sheet Radio for all the latest updates on this thrilling reboot.
