WWE Sends AEW Cease and Desist Over Usage of Andrade

Jonathan EscuderoComment

Wrestling Observer Radio is reporting WWE has issued a cease and desist letter to All Elite Wrestling (AEW). The legal notice concerns the recent appearance of Andrade El Idolo on AEW programming, which is alleged to be a violation of a non-compete clause following his dismissal from WWE in the summer of 2025.

Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez spoke on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio about the subject:

"Here’s what I heard. I don’t know what’s going on with Andrade but I was told that he’s not hurt. He didn’t get himself fired. Apparently something is up involving his WWE non-compete…I was given the impression it could be something that could be resolved quickly or it could be something that might not be resolved for a while, but it’s something related to the non-compete. When he was fired, remember we were told they [WWE] didn’t care," Bryan Alvarez said.

"That is what I’ve been hearing was WWE sent a letter and they [AEW] obviously didn’t know. AEW obviously believed that there was no non-compete. There were people who talked to people in WWE who also believed there was no non-compete but WWE apparently, you know, that’s the story that they said he can’t do them for 90 days," added Dave Meltzer.

Andrade's second tenure with WWE concluded abruptly when he was released on September 14, 2025. Reports at the time indicated the departure was not mutual but a disciplinary action from the company. The release followed a tumultuous period for the superstar, which included at least one supposed wellness policy violation that led to a suspension without pay.

The heart of the dispute is the standard 90-day non-compete clause included in WWE main roster contracts. This clause prevents a superstar from appearing for a competing promotion for that period after their departure, during which WWE continues to pay their salary. Andrade made his surprise return to AEW in early October, well within the 90-day window of his September firing. His appearance on AEW programming seemingly triggered the legal action from WWE.

Seth Rollins Believed to be Hurt In Crown Jewel Match with Cody Rhodes

Jonathan EscuderoComment

PWInsider reports the angle on Raw earlier today with Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker turning on Seth Rollins happened because Seth Rollins was hurt at Crown Jewel: Perth over the weekend.

The belief is Rollins landed on his left shoulder when he hit the coast to coast headbutt

There is no official word on the nature of the issue, but Rollins was seen sporting a sling in a photo he took with a fan Sunday evening in Australia.

PWInsider reports he will be undergoing testing in the coming days.

Fightful reports sources in WWE hinted Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed attacked Rollins as a “heavy creative pivot” without being explicitly stated.

Fightful Select spoke to a source in WWE that indicated that they'd heard that a Bron Breakker split originally wasn't planned or in the cards until next year, somthing that Ibou from Self Made PW had heard previously.

A number of talent departures from WWE's NXT brand were reported on Friday. Initial reports from Cory Hays of Bodyslam, later confirmed by Fightful Select, named several performers released from the developmental brand.

The list includes former NXT North American Champion Wes Lee, Stevie Turner, Lance Anoa’i, Jin Tala, Drako Knox, Haze Jameson, Summer Sorrell, Brayden "BJ" Ray, and Jamar Hampton.

The Rock has never been stretchered out(?)

Afa and Sika have never been stretchered out. But Bronson Reed had Roman Reigns stretchered out of the building.

Roman says he wants to fight right now. Heyman tries to keep Bronson from fighting but Roman calls him a coward and says he's levels above Bronson anyway.

Doesn't matter where, when or how, Roman will get his hands on Reed.

CM PUNK comes out. He says he won't be getting involved in Seth Rollins business at Crown Jewel because he respects Cody Rhodes.

LA Knight interrupted Punk to say he was a shitty World Champion. Lost the belt in five minutes. Doesn't deserve another shot.

Jey Uso interrupted them both but LA Knight wouldn't stop yapping so Jey super kicked him.

Roman agrees and Jimmy snaps at Roman. He wants Roman to know the Usos are not like him.

Gunther Reportedly Chosen to Be John Cena's Final Opponent

Jonathan EscuderoComment

WWE is reportedly planning a significant storyline for John Cena's final match, with Intercontinental Champion Gunther positioned as his last opponent.

In July, WRKD Wrestling first reported that Gunther was the chosen opponent for Cena's retirement match. That initial claim has now been followed up by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, who reports that WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque is planning to announce a company-wide tournament to determine who will face the 16-time world champion in his career-ending bout.

According to these reports, the tournament will feature many of WWE's top stars, all vying for the historic opportunity to be John Cena's final opponent. However, it is believed that the ultimate outcome has already been decided, with Gunther slated to win the tournament and earn the spot.

While WWE has not made an official announcement, the convergence of these reports suggests that a monumental match between the legendary John Cena and the dominant Gunther is the intended direction for Cena's farewell to the ring.

Santos Escobar Leaving WWE

Jonathan EscuderoComment

Santos Escobar is reportedly set to depart from WWE, with his contract officially expiring at midnight on October 6, 2025.

According to a report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Escobar will become a free agent upon the expiration of his contract. This will leave him free to sign and compete with any other professional wrestling promotion immediately.

The report states that WWE made significant efforts to re-sign the superstar, including a substantial contract offer with a higher salary. However, Escobar reportedly declined the new terms, choosing to explore his options outside of the company.

This news follows earlier speculation about his future, fueled by his prolonged absence from WWE television and rumors of his contract status being a topic of discussion. At this time, neither WWE nor Santos Escobar has released an official statement regarding the departure.

Steven Borden, Son of Sting, Makes Pro Wrestling Debut

Jonathan EscuderoComment

Following in the footsteps of a legend, Steven Borden, the son of iconic wrestler Sting, has officially stepped into the squared circle, making his professional wrestling debut at the unique "52W Hardway" event. The show, an art exhibition in New York City hosted by AEW star Darby Allin, blended the worlds of contemporary art and live pro wrestling.

In his debut match, Borden teamed up with JD Drake to face a formidable duo: his mentor Darby Allin and Karrion Kross. This first official match marks a significant step for Borden, who has been diligently training for a career in the ring.

This was not Borden's first time in front of a wrestling crowd, however. He made a memorable appearance at All Elite Wrestling's "Revolution" pay-per-view earlier in the year, during his father's emotional retirement match. Paying tribute to his father's storied career, Borden appeared dressed in Sting's classic nWo Wolfpac attire, while his brother Garrett donned the "Surfer" Sting look. During the match, Steven electrified the audience by executing a picture-perfect "Stinger Splash," a move made famous by his father, hinting at the athletic potential he possessed

That appearance at "Revolution" served as a catalyst, and soon after, it was confirmed that Borden, a former University of Kentucky tight end who was briefly signed by the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs, had begun training to become a professional wrestler. He has been honing his craft under the guidance of several respected figures in the industry, including Darby Allin, Adam Copeland (formerly Edge), and the tag team FTR. Borden's debut at "52W Hardway" is the culmination of that hard work and the first chapter in what many fans hope will be another storied Borden legacy in professional wrestling.

NXT/TNA ‘INVASION’ Re-Named to ‘SHOWDOWN' Following Israeli Controversy

Jonathan EscuderoComment

The upcoming crossover event between WWE's NXT brand and Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling, scheduled for October 7, has been met with significant controversy and backlash, particularly from media outlets in Israel, due to its original branding as "NXT vs. TNA: Invasion."

The controversy stems from the date of the event, which falls on the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack on Israel. Critics have condemned the use of the word "Invasion" as "extremely insensitive" and "tone-deaf" given the real-world context of the anniversary.

Reports from Israeli news outlets, including Israel Hayom, highlighted the backlash, describing the combination of the date and the "Invasion" title as a "preposterous decision." The name of the special episode is a callback to a popular 2001 WWE storyline, but its use in this context has been viewed as a significant oversight that draws a parallel between a fictional wrestling angle and a day of real-world violence and mourning.

In response to the widespread criticism, the special has been officially renamed "NXT vs. TNA: SHOWDOWN." The name was quietly updated on WWE's official schedule and promotional materials, acknowledging the insensitivity of the original title. While the company did not issue a formal public statement addressing the controversy directly, the change was made to mitigate the offense caused by the initial branding. The event will proceed on the scheduled date under the new, less contentious n

ame.

Drew McIntyre cast as Angus MacLeod in HIGHLANDER Reboot

Jonathan EscuderoComment

In a move that's sure to excite both wrestling and film fans, WWE superstar Drew McIntyre has officially joined the cast of the upcoming 'HIGHLANDER' reboot from Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists. The Scottish Warrior will step into a significant role, starring opposite Henry Cavill as Angus MacLeod, brother to Cavill's character, Connor MacLeod.

This casting news adds another layer of anticipation to a project that has already garnered considerable attention. Henry Cavill's involvement as the lead was a major announcement, and now, with McIntyre joining the ranks, the film is building a formidable ensemble.

The original 'Highlander' film, released in 1986, became a cult classic, known for its iconic line "There can be only one," its unique premise of immortal warriors battling across centuries, and its memorable soundtrack by Queen. The story followed Connor MacLeod, a Scottish Highlander born in the 16th century, who discovers he is one of a select group of immortals who can only be killed by decapitation. These immortals are destined to fight each other until only one remains to claim "The Prize."

For Drew McIntyre, this role marks a significant foray into mainstream acting. While many WWE Superstars have transitioned to Hollywood, McIntyre's casting in a major franchise reboot alongside a star like Cavill speaks volumes about his growing presence and charisma beyond the wrestling ring. His powerful physique, commanding presence, and Scottish heritage make him a natural fit for the 'Highlander' universe, particularly as a MacLeod.

The addition of Angus MacLeod as Connor's brother promises to expand on the lore and familial dynamics that were hinted at in the original series. Fans will be eager to see how this sibling relationship plays out and what role Angus will have in Connor's journey through immortality. Given McIntyre's background, it's safe to assume that his character will be involved in some intense action sequences.

The 'HIGHLANDER' reboot is being directed by Chad Stahelski, known for his work on the 'John Wick' franchise, which bodes well for the film's action choreography and visual style. With a director adept at crafting intricate fight scenes and a cast featuring talent like Cavill and McIntyre, the new 'HIGHLANDER' is shaping up to be a visually stunning and action-packed revival of a beloved classic.

As production gears up, fans will undoubtedly be looking forward to more details, and perhaps even a glimpse of McIntyre in his full 'Highlander' regalia.

Macho Man Film In Development From Kenan Thompson

Jonathan EscuderoComment

A biopic detailing the life of iconic professional wrestler “Macho Man” Randy Savage is in development from Artists for Artists, the production company co-founded by Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson and his partner John Ryan Jr., as reported by Deadline. The film, titled Macho, is based on a script completed by Savage's late brother, Lanny Poffo, and writer Eric Shapiro before Poffo's death in February 2023.

Thompson and Ryan Jr. are lifelong fans of the wrestler, with Thompson having a personal connection after working with Savage on a Nickelodeon promo in 1999. Their passion for the subject is a driving force behind the project's development.

Born Randy Poffo, "Macho Man" Randy Savage was one of the most charismatic and recognizable superstars of professional wrestling's golden era in the 1980s and 90s. Known for his intense, gravelly-voiced interviews, flamboyant ring attire, and his signature catchphrase, "Ooooh yeah!", Savage captured the attention of millions. His in-ring style was as dynamic as his personality, capped off by his legendary top-rope elbow drop finisher.

Savage's career was defined by classic rivalries with wrestling legends like Hulk Hogan and Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, with his match against Steamboat at WrestleMania III often cited as one of the greatest matches of all time. Central to his character was his on-screen and real-life relationship with his manager, the "lovely" Miss Elizabeth Hulette. Their storyline, which included a dramatic breakup and a tearful reunion at WrestleMania VII, remains one of the most emotionally resonant angles in WWE history. Savage was a multi-time world champion in both WWE and its rival, WCW. Following his wrestling career, he made a memorable appearance as the wrestler Bone Saw McGraw in the 2002 film Spider-Man. Savage passed away in 2011 at the age of 58.
