Gunther Reportedly Chosen to Be John Cena's Final Opponent

Jonathan EscuderoComment

WWE is reportedly planning a significant storyline for John Cena's final match, with Intercontinental Champion Gunther positioned as his last opponent.

In July, WRKD Wrestling first reported that Gunther was the chosen opponent for Cena's retirement match. That initial claim has now been followed up by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, who reports that WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque is planning to announce a company-wide tournament to determine who will face the 16-time world champion in his career-ending bout.

According to these reports, the tournament will feature many of WWE's top stars, all vying for the historic opportunity to be John Cena's final opponent. However, it is believed that the ultimate outcome has already been decided, with Gunther slated to win the tournament and earn the spot.

While WWE has not made an official announcement, the convergence of these reports suggests that a monumental match between the legendary John Cena and the dominant Gunther is the intended direction for Cena's farewell to the ring.
