AEW PPVs to Stream on HBO Max at $39.99 in HDR10 with Dolby Atmos

Jonathan EscuderoComment

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) have revealed a major expansion of their partnership that will bring AEW's pay-per-view events to the HBO Max streaming service. The new deal officially kicks off with AEW All Out, which will stream live from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada, on Saturday, September 20, at 3 p.m. ET.

Under the new agreement, all marketing and promotion for AEW pay-per-views will be centered on HBO Max. U.S. subscribers to the platform will be able to purchase the live, ad-free events for an exclusive price of $39.99. Pre-orders for AEW All Out will begin this Friday, September 5. The events will be available in high-dynamic range (HDR10) and Dolby Atmos sound, offering an immersive viewing experience. Following the live broadcast, purchasers will have exclusive access to replays for six months.

To support the launch, WBD will air special lead-in programming. On Saturday, September 20, at 2 p.m. ET, a one-hour live pre-show titled AEW Saturday Tailgate Brawl: All Out will air on both TNT and HBO Max. Additionally, on Wednesday, September 17, a special three-hour event, September to Remember, will air live from London, Ontario, on TBS and HBO Max at 8 p.m. ET, setting the final stage for the pay-per-view.

This move significantly broadens the AEW content library available on HBO Max. Subscribers now have access to hundreds of hours of programming, including live simulcasts and on-demand replays of weekly shows AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision. The library also features all AEW pay-per-view events through the end of 2024 and the first two years of AEW Dynamite episodes.

The expanded partnership is fueled by AEW's strong performance across WBD networks. So far this year, AEW programming has reached over 11 million fans across TBS and TNT. AEW Dynamite consistently ranks as the #1 cable entertainment program on Wednesdays among the key P18-49 demographic, while AEW Collision is a top 5 program in its Saturday time slot.

The companies highlighted recent successes, including the April 26 episode of Collision being the show's third most-watched ever, and the AEW Grand Slam Mexico edition of Dynamite on June 18 delivering the highest viewership among P25-54 in nearly a year.

Here's the complete statement provided by WBD:

"Warner Bros. Discovery, HBO Max and All Elite Wrestling today announced a groundbreaking expansion of their nearly six-year relationship, with the launch of AEW pay-per-view events on HBO Max, starting with AEW All Out on Saturday, September 20 at 3 p.m. ET from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada.

HBO Max will stream live AEW pay-per-view events without ads, with all marketing and promotions of AEW PPV events primarily centered on HBO Max. Preorders for AEW All Out on HBO Max will launch this Friday, September 5, allowing U.S. HBO Max subscribers with supported devices to purchase the event for the exclusive price of $39.99. Fans streaming AEW All Out on HBO Max can enjoy this event in HDR10 and Dolby Atmos, delivering stunning picture quality and immersive, arena-like sound that puts fans at the center of the action. Purchase and access to PPV Content may vary by subscription provider.

HBO Max users with a base subscription and a supported device can log on to purchase the event, which will be highlighted throughout the app or found in search. Once a purchase is complete, subscribers can find the event under “My Purchases” via the “My Stuff” page on the HBO Max menu. After the event, replays will be exclusively available for six months for purchasers. For more information on the HBO Max PPV experience, click here.

Leading into AEW All Out that Saturday, September 20, TNT and HBO Max will air AEW Saturday Tailgate Brawl: All Out at 2 p.m. ET, a one-hour live show that will get fans’ adrenaline pumping for the afternoon’s main attraction.

Also, earlier in the week on Wednesday, September 17, TBS and HBO Max will be live from London, Ontario for a special three-hour show — September to Remember — starting at 8 p.m. ET, featuring AEW’s biggest names in non-stop high-flying action as they set the stage for

the signature pay-per-view event that weekend.

The addition of AEW pay-per-view events on HBO Max continues an incredible year for AEW programming across Warner Bros. Discovery networks and platforms, delivering the widest offering for AEW fans ever.

HBO Max subscribers in the U.S. have access to a growing library of hundreds of hours of AEW content, including all new AEW weekly telecasts — AEW Dynamite on TBS and AEW Collision on TNT — as a live simulcast as well as on demand replays, all AEW pay-per-view special events through the end of 2024, all episodes of AEW Dynamite from its first two years, as well as all recent episodes of AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision.

AEW programming has reached more than 11 million fans so far this year across TBS and TNT, with AEW Dynamite on TBS ranking as Wednesday’s #1 cable entertainment program among P18-49. AEW Collision also ranks among the top 5 programs in its Saturday time slot among P18-49 and M18-49. TNT’s April 26 episode of AEW Collision delivered the show’s third largest total viewers ever, and TBS’ AEW Grand Slam Mexico on June 18 had the most watched AEW Dynamite episode among P25-54 in nearly a year (July 2024).

Arez Signs With AEW Over WWE After Bidding War

Jonathan EscuderoComment

Luchador Arez is officially All Elite, set to debut in AEW as El Clon (The Clone), a character directly linked to the recently introduced Hologram. The new persona was teased during the most recent episode of AEW Collision, and the signing represents a significant acquisition for the promotion following a competitive bidding situation with WWE.

According to a report from The Cubs Fan(@LuchaBlog), WWE had shown significant interest in signing Arez, which ultimately prompted AEW to make a definitive offer. “WWE checked him out, liked what they saw, and let him know they wanted to bring him back to AAA. Arez let AEW know that he now had another offer, and they needed to make a final decision. AEW decided to make its own offer, and Arez picked AEW over WWE,” the report stated. “This is more notable than just Arez signing with AAAA, as it’s the first known AEW/WWE battle over a Mexican free agent since WWE acquired AAA – but I would emphasize the ‘known’ part.”

Known as "The King of Strange Style" (El Rey del Estilo Extraño), Arez is a highly-regarded veteran of the Mexican independent circuit, lauded for his unique and technical in-ring prowess in promotions like Lucha Libre AAA, Major League Wrestling (MLW), and Game Changer Wrestling (GCW).

The storyline introducing him as a clone of Hologram is particularly compelling given the real-life history between Arez and the man behind the Hologram character, Aramis. The two luchadors have a long and storied history as both rivals and partners, having produced numerous critically acclaimed matches against one another across Mexico and the United States. Their established chemistry adds a significant layer of depth to the new AEW angle.

Why All In 2018 Is The Most Important Wrestling Event in Modern History

Jonathan EscuderoComment

Seven years ago today, Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks held the original All In event.

To understand why it is arguably the single most important wrestling event in modern history, we have to go back to 2001.

With WCW and ECW gone, the WWF became the last remaining major professional wrestling promotion in North America, a position it would hold for nearly two decades. From this supreme dominance, a vacuum developed.

This vacuum, combined with the passion of unsigned wrestlers in the early 2000s, gave birth to the American Independent Wrestling scene.

Promotions like Ring of Honor, CZW, PWG, TNA and IWA-MS sprung up, providing an alternative style and a place of employment for those outside the WWE system.

As WWE largely closed its doors to working partnerships, promotions from Japan, Mexico, and Europe began building relationships with the American Independents, cultivating a growing interest in international wrestling among US fans.

New Japan Pro Wrestling, in particular, saw a major resurgence thanks in part to fans like the late RealHero12089 Jahmale Hepburn sharing NJPW shows with Americans who otherwise had no access.

By 2018, partnerships like the one between ROH and NJPW had formed the framework of an alternative wrestling ecosystem. However, the true potential of this scene remained untapped until Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks took a tweet from Dave Meltzer—claiming a non-WWE show couldn't sell 10,000 seats—as a direct challenge.

In response, they self-funded their own event, All In, and sold over 10,000 tickets in under 30 minutes, proving the alternative style was a quantifiable success. Capturing the attention of billionaire wrestling fan Tony Khan. Unbeknownst to Cody and the Bucks, Khan was already making in roads to putting a new wrestling show on cable television.

Four months later, All Elite Wrestling was announced. The spiritual successor to All In.

While All In was intended to be a culmination of everything the American indies and international federations had built, it ultimately became a beacon for the future of the industry.

Today, there are once again two major national promotions in America, with one—All Elite Wrestling, the direct successor to All In—maintaining a focus on the very alternative styles that built its foundation.

The importance of the original All In event should never be lost to history; just because this chapter doesn't belong to WWE, it is no less significant.

AJ Lee Returning to WWE?

Jonathan Escudero1 Comment

According to Fightful, AJ Lee's name has been circulating internally in various pitches over the last couple of months. Notably, these pitches haven't been dismissed as they have in the past, with WWE sources indicating more traction on a potential comeback than in previous years.

A high-ranking WWE official expressed confidence in Lee's ability to return to the ring without issue, citing her physical condition and the precedent set by her husband, CM Punk, who also made a successful return after a prolonged absence. This sentiment is reportedly shared by many within the company, who believe she could seamlessly transition back into a prominent role.

The speculation reached a fever pitch at the conclusion of WWE's Clash in Paris event. In the main event, Seth Rollins retained his World Heavyweight Championship in a chaotic fatal four-way match against CM Punk, Jey Uso, and LA Knight. In the aftermath of the match, the ongoing animosity between Rollins and CM Punk led to Becky Lynch’s involvement.

As Punk was leaving the arena, he acknowledged a fan's sign that read "AJ Lee," holding it up for the cameras in a move many are interpreting as a deliberate tease.

This moment, combined with the internal discussions at WWE, strongly suggests that the door is more open than ever for an AJ Lee return. While nothing is confirmed, the events at Clash in Paris have added significant weight to the rumors, leaving fans to wonder if and when they will once again hear the familiar "Let's Light It Up" theme song in a WWE arena.

FTR try to run back in and fight, but security and the referees are quick to keep them apart. A match for All Out is then confirmed between FTR and Cope & Cage.

Opening Match: Jon Moxley vs Daniel Garcia

Jon Moxley enters through the crowd, per usual. Daniel Garcia gets an entrance that definitely fits the old ECW vibe!

The match was a back and forth bout with Daddy Magic coming out to give Garcia some assistance. It didn’t matter as Moxley got the win with a small package pin. Afterwords, Mox tried to show respect to Garcia who was very dejected from this loss.

Winner: Jon Moxley

The Brute of the Death Riders gets attacked backstage by the wild Darby Allin! Darby gets thrown into a shopping cart and then pushed right into a sea of chairs! And this is all within the first minute. The wrestlers fight to the ringside area where Darby gets away from the strong Claudio. Darby climbs 15-20 feet in the air on one of the ECW Arena pillars before a MASSIVE COFFIN DROP onto Claudio!

Inside the ring, we have what Dusty Rhodes used to call ‘plunder’ all over the place! Claudio lifts up Darby like it’s nothing AND TOSSES HIM RIGHT ONTO THE ANNOUNCE TABLE! Similar to what Yuta faced at Forbidden Door, the table DID NOT break! It did temporarily disconnect commentary, though.

As the announcers come back online, Darby gets back in the ring with Claudio where the two (who have already done tremendous damage to one another) get some back and forth shots. Darby nails a code red, but Claudio smashes Darby onto a pile of chairs with an Avalanche Gutwrench. IT’S ANYONE’S GAME!

Finally, Darby hits a few more Coffin Drops onto Claudio to finish him off for the win. No time to celebrate though as a man in a hood jumps Darby from behind. It’s Gabe Kidd! Gabe and Mox look to eliminate Darby once and for all, but the spirit of ECW gives Darby a second wind to fight back and escape the Death Riders who give chase!

WINNER: Darby Allin

Maki Itoh Departs Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling

Jonathan EscuderoComment

Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling (TJPW) has announced the departure of Maki Itoh, whose contract expired following the Korakuen Hall event on August 23, 2025. After extensive discussions, both Itoh and TJPW mutually agreed not to renew her contract, concluding her tenure with the promotion at the recent event.

Maki said in a statement:

“With the Korakuen Hall show on August 23, 2025, my contract with TJPW has come to an end.

Back when I was struggling as an idol, it was Takagi who discovered me.

I wasn't good at singing or dancing, and I was never that popular-but the one thing I was ever praised for was pro wrestling.

Thanks to TJPW, I was able to spend 8 years and 7 months growing and living alongside this company.

It's all because of TJPW and everyone I've met along the way.

I'll continue wrestling, so I'm sure we'll meet again somewhere down the road!

I'll never forget the gratitude I feel toward everyone who has supported me, and I'll keep treasuring the experience and knowledge I gained here as I move forward.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you fuck you all!”

Itoh, known for her unique character and passionate fanbase both in Japan and internationally, has been a prominent figure in TJPW for several years. While her future endeavors have not been explicitly stated, her departure comes at a time when many Japanese wrestlers have been increasing their appearances and profiles within the United States professional wrestling scene.

Over the past few years, there has been a noticeable increase in appearances by Japanese wrestlers in the United States. Promotions such as All Elite Wrestling (AEW), IMPACT Wrestling, and various independent organizations have actively featured talent from Japan, reflecting a growing interest in and appreciation for the distinct style and athleticism of Japanese wrestling. This trend has provided opportunities for wrestlers to gain international exposure and connect with a wider audience.

The reasons behind this rise in US appearances are multifaceted. For Japanese wrestlers, it offers a chance to broaden their experience, test their skills against different styles, and potentially reach a larger and more lucrative market. Simultaneously, US-based promotions benefit from the unique drawing power and in-ring prowess that Japanese talent brings, adding a different flavor to their shows and attracting fans intrigued by international wrestling. The increasing accessibility of international travel and communication has also facilitated these cross-promotional relationships and individual bookings.

Maki Itoh herself has made several appearances in the United States in recent years, gaining significant popularity with American fans through her involvement with AEW. Her fiery in-ring style and engaging personality resonated strongly, contributing to the broader trend of Japanese wrestlers making a mark in the US. While her departure from TJPW marks the end of a chapter, the current climate suggests that opportunities for her to continue her career, potentially including further appearances in the United States, are likely to be available. The wrestling world will be watching closely to see what the future holds for the beloved "top idol."

Syko Stu Missing Teeth, Left Without Memory on a Breathing Tube After Raja Jackson Incident

Jonathan Escudero1 Comment

An update on the chaotic scene that unfolded at a recent KnokX Pro Wrestling event in Los Angeles, as Raja Jackson, son of MMA legend Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, engaged in a brutal, unscheduled attack on veteran professional wrestler Stuart "Syko Stu" Smith.

The incident, which was captured on video during a live stream on Kick, has resulted in serious injuries for Smith and prompted investigations by both law enforcement and the wrestling promotion itself.

Footage of the altercation shows Jackson entering the ring and forcefully slamming Smith to the canvas. Smith appears to lose consciousness upon impact. Jackson then mounted his opponent and delivered a barrage of over twenty punches to Smith's head before other wrestlers intervened to stop the assault.

One of these interveners, "The Epic" Douglas Malo, a guest on "The Scaling Up Podcast," was present at the event and stated he effectively saved Stu from further harm.

Another wrestler was also seen pinning an unconscious Syko Stu after the initial assault. The podcast discussion also raised concerns that the assault may have been premeditated, with some suggesting Jackson was encouraged to harm Stu.

This in-ring violence followed an earlier altercation where Smith was filmed striking Jackson on the head with a canned beverage. According to a video, Smith had mistaken Jackson for a fellow wrestler. While the precise sequence of events and motivations are still under scrutiny, KnokX Pro Wrestling has labeled the incident a "work that went wrong," suggesting a planned segment that devolved into real violence.

However, the severity of Smith's injuries, which include broken facial bones and lost teeth, casts serious doubt on this initial characterization.

According to Doug, Smith had to be medically induced into a coma due to the severity of his injuries. The hosts also claimed that after the assault, Raja showed no remorse, citing personal issues as a reason for his actions. The wrestling school has been accused of not cooperating with the police.

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson has since issued a public apology for his son's actions, citing a recent concussion Raja had sustained and stating he should not have been participating in any physical activity. In response, the person who intervened to stop the assault has challenged Rampage Jackson to a charity boxing match to raise money for Syko Stu's medical expenses.

In the aftermath, reports have surfaced regarding potential support for Syko Stu. Notably, online personality MrBeast has allegedly offered assistance to Smith, although the specifics and authenticity of this offer are still developing.

The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed they are investigating the incident. Meanwhile, Syko Stu's family has acknowledged the outpouring of support but has also warned against fraudulent fundraising efforts in his name. They have stated that he is in stable but critical condition.

Douglas Malo also noted the long-term consequences of the event, including the trauma experienced by children who witnessed the assault.

The investigations underway will likely focus on the breakdown in protocol, the instigating factors behind the violence, and the accountability of all parties involved.

Olympian Rugby Player Ilona Maher Approached By WWE

Jonathan EscuderoComment

After her turn on Dancing With the Stars last year, rugby star and Olympic bronze medalist Ilona Maher is considering a new kind of spotlight.

She recently revealed to BBC Sport that she’s “been approached before by the WWE,” adding that if she joined the company, her ring name would be “Maher-vellous.” Maher said, “I don’t know if I would [go into wrestling]. I should think about it, there is great money in it,” noting that she also has her eyes on the “acting space.”

Maher's background as a USA Rugby Olympian gives her a unique advantage in any physical role. Known for her powerful tackles and commanding presence on the field, her athletic skillset translates well to the physical demands of pro wrestling.

Beyond her athletic prowess, Maher has also cultivated a large social media following, particularly on TikTok, where her humorous and relatable content has earned her a reputation for charisma and stage presence.

Hulk Hogan Death Potentially Cause by Medical Malpractice

Jonathan EscuderoComment

While the official cause of Hulk Hogan’s death was a heart attack, TMZ reports medical malpractice may have played a significant role. This report, if accurate, could open the door for a massive lawsuit.

According to a police report from the Clearwater PD, an occupational therapist was at Hogan’s home when he stopped breathing. The therapist reportedly told officers that Hogan was a victim of medical malpractice, claiming a surgeon had “severed” his phrenic nerve during a recent operation—it's still unclear if it was for his heart or neck. For those unfamiliar, the phrenic nerve is crucial as it controls the diaphragm and, by extension, breathing. The therapist's statements were allegedly captured on police body camera footage, which is now on "lockdown," but multiple sources have confirmed the contents of the report and the existence of the footage.

Hogan's wife, Sky, was the one who raised the alarm when he stopped breathing, leading to the 911 call. Meanwhile, Hogan's daughter, Brooke, has publicly called for an autopsy. We are told that as of a week ago, his body had not yet been cremated, but the family has not yet released any further information on whether that has changed.

The potential for a legal battle looms large, especially considering Hogan's past. He had previously sued a different medical clinic for $50 million over a botched back surgery that he claimed ruined his ability to earn a living. The case was eventually settled for an undisclosed amount. With his daughter pushing for an autopsy and the alleged body cam footage on file, this situation is far from over.
