After defeating Lady Midday, Magik and Colossus are hot on her trail to try and find a way to stop these horrors that have been following Colossus.
*WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!*
Siblings to the End
Back at Lake Baikal, Russia Colossus and Magik are fishing with their father. In Magik's frustration of Colossus not letting her fish yet, she says that she hates him. Leaving Colossus heartbroken by her comment. Showing the softness of his character.
Now on the train, they follow Lady Midday's trail to where they hope she is. Just like when they were kids, they go back and forth with each other on how to handle this situation when they finally get to the source. Magik wants to kill this being and put an end to it, but Colossus wants to move on from being a killer.
Now in St. Petersburg, they are starting the lose the connection. Halfway through their argument, they are attacked by Rusalkas. Russian Siren's from folklore. And they begin to put a beating on Magik underwater, slicing her arm and stomach open with deep slashes.
While Magik is able to escape momentarily we're shown Colossus putting a beating on the remaining ones on shore. But through this all, they keep taking civilians into the water. When one Siren thinks she has Magik in her grasp, she adverts her expectations and sends a blade through her head from the bottom of her jaw. Saving this civilian and bringing them back to shore, Colossus is begging Magik to leave the water and come back to him.
She tricks Colossus, letting him think she's coming back to safety on shore. But she has another thing in mind. Using the rope given by Colossus she uses it to tie it around the sirens, causing a deadly connection when she uses electricity to kill them all in one fail swoop.
When coming back up from the water, Colossus lifts her up with a strong pull, into a tight hug knowing that his sister is safe and alive in his arms. During their reunion they see another classic myth. A small man named Bannik who they chase after immediately. Luckily Bannik hates who's in charge of all of this, The Immortal, just as much as they do.
After warning that The Immortal will be the end of everyone, he directs them on where to go next. He directs them to go to the church to retrieve an object that will lead them directly to him.
Upon entering this church is where everything begins to go wrong. This was just a set up by The Immortal. He traps Magik in a spell, chaining her to the ground leading Colossus to try and chase after them in a short period of time. But its all just too late as Magik is gone once again, his biggest fear from the last issue has happened once again as tear falls from his metallic face.
Conclusion
A story of both family and loss. This story being built around these two iconic characters is one for the ages and will be in many best of lists going forward if this quality continues on.
This issue tackled the emotional side of Magik and Colossus' relationship. The caring brother tasked with taking care of his rough around the edges younger sister. Its a story told a million times in the past, but its an effective storytelling tool when building the core of this familial relationship. Colossus does everything he can these past 2 issues to keep Magik safe. And now that his worst nightmare has come true again, Colossus gets one step closer to taking the gloved off and leaving no stone unturned until he gets her back.
Really excited for issue #3 of this, its been a fun past two issues and the train looks to not be slowing down just yet. While I liked Issue #1 more than this one, this Issue was still very solid!
