This is Firehawk and Professor Stein’s chance to save Ronnie Raymond from Firestorm. But when he fights back, will they survive his onslaught? Or can they break through and reach the man buried inside?
*Fury of Firestorm #5 SPOILERS ahead!*
FIGHTING BACK
Firestorm has arrived at the Justice League HQ. But everybody looks...older? Not age-wise, but timeline-wise. This isn't the current day. From what we've seen recently, we know this is the subconscious of Ronnie Raymond, who's trapped inside Firestorm.
And now they're on a mission. Time to take out Eclipso, together as a team!
Back in reality, Firehawk and Professor Stein arrive in Pittsburgh. They look onto the large diamond-like object in the middle of the city. Building up confidence to test out Stein's device.
But for this device to work properly, Stein needs Firehawk to help. Because of her relationship with Ronnie, he believes that she can cause enough of a distraction to allow Stein to use his device and separate Ronnie from this lifeless Firestorm entity.
BREAKING THROUGH THE BARRIER
Face to face with a person she doesn't even recognize. Firehawk calls out for Ronnie. But this entity ignores her. When he eventually does give her any sort of attention, it's to pounce on her for an attack.
Simultaneously, Ronnie internally is fighting Eclipso. But the barrier between fantasy and reality starts warping. The internal voice of Professor Stein tells Ronnie to listen, and he finally hears the voice of Firehawk.
She cries out for him while Stein cries out in anger outside this structure. Her car has broken down, so he can't get close enough to use the device. He takes a second and makes an impulsive decision, stepping out of the car and looking under the hood.
Back in the fight, Firehawk and Firestorm continue to battle. This entity is telling her that Ronnie no longer exists and he will consume her with the rest of this city.
And when she's on her knees, almost defeated...Ronnie fights his way back to her, but it’s only momentarily as Firestorm takes back over, fighting its way to the surface.
And the only one to contain it is...
Professor Stein?!
CONCLUSION
So many questions! This book always has you questioning what's going to happen next when you seemingly think you have all the answers. Was Stein sending her in as the "only" person that could control him, another lie? Or is this a part of a larger plan?
Stein in this book is in such a grey area. One minute he tells you openly about the horrible lies he's been a part of. Then being a helping hand the next. My expectations have been completely diverted, but in a good way. I genuinely have zero clue what's going to happen next in this series. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, if you aren't reading The Fury of Firestorm, the TPB is going to be something that sells a large number of copies (I hope).
