Just days after capturing the interim WWE Women’s Championship in a ladder match during the second night of this years SummerSlam festivities, tragedy has struck Chelsea Green during the peak of her run in WWE. On the Aug. 7 edition of SmackDown, the ‘Hot Mess’ of WWE teamed up with the Women’s United States Champion Tiffany Stratton to take on the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Fatal Attraction. Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid won after Jacy Jane interfered, hitting Green with the Rolling Encore, then downed Green with the Fatal Flaw for the win. After the match, Nia Jax and Lash Legend came out to attack Green and Stratton. Stratton was thrown out of the ring, but Green was not touched once as Jax and Legend stood tall.

Earlier today, Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that Green was injured during the show. Green later confirmed it in an Instagram video, having suffered a broken orbital bone.

“I did get injured last night. I ended up in the emergency room and I have a broken orbital bone,” Green said in the video. “So I just need to take a little bit more time to like process and to heal from the head trauma that is going on right now. Then, we’ll see what happens.”

The fate of Green’s reign is currently up in the air, as it’s unknown if she’ll have to relinquish her title. For Green, the championship win had been the culmination of a run that had seen her popularity blossom. Dirt Sheet Radio wishes her a speedy recovery.
