The entertainment juggernaut of Disney Entertainment Television and Studios has been dealt a denting blow as hundreds of employees have received their pink slips. This comes just three months after they laid off about one thousand employees in an attempted restructuring of the company. Unlike with the cuts in April, current CEO Josh D’Amaro has not sent out a memo regarding this latest round of cuts.
At the time of writing, employees affected by the layoffs should have already been notified. Disney film studios, their corporate level, and ESPN will be impacted by the layoffs.
Three noteworthy on-air talents no longer at ESPN are Cam Newton, Ryan Clark, and Karl Ravech. Clark was reportedly informed of his being let go on Monday while filming NFL Live. Cam joined ESPN back in 2024 and primarily appeared on their show First Take. Last August, the former Carolina Panthers quarterback signed a multiyear extension with the network. Karl Ravech is a significantly high-profile loss for ESPN. He joined the company in 1993, and for three decades, he has hosted multiple studio shows and was one of the faces of their baseball coverage.
The companies most affected by the layoffs are Pixar and National Geographic. Pixar recently released Toy Story 5, which is nearing one billion dollars at the box office, and released Hoppers earlier in the year, which reportedly underperformed at the box office. 150 people are expected to be laid off at Pixar, which is the largest round of layoffs at the company since 2024. The exact number of layoffs at National Geographic has not been reported yet, only that it is a large percentage of the hundred or so employees laid off at Disney Entertainment Television.
