As the X-Men fell into a DANGERous trap. Do they have the ROOM to escape with their lives intact? This issue, we see who the puppet masters are that are really pulling the strings here.
*SPOILER WARNING AHEAD!*
BUILDING A TEAM:
At Arbfield Women's Prison we see Maxine Danger from the last issue interviewing a women who goes by Agent Jackson. Former S.H.I.E.L.D agent who refuses to speak to her. She states that whenever she speaks, people die. Maxine describes Jackson's time in S.H.I.E.L.D and how she was someone that led operations that had a large number of casualties due to her setting a personal body count that she wanted to reach. Including S.H.I.E.L.D soldiers, before they caught on and let her go. Making her a prime candidate for Maxine's big plan.
Back in The Danger Room with Maxine, she's joined by Agent Jackson and 3 other men. Agent Jackson confirms that a big asset to the X-Men in Psylocke is separated from the team as she planned it. Using her history with John Greycrow to convince her to separate from the rest of the X-Men. In her separation, a missile has launched, not only trying to take her and Xorn out, but their tactical jet as well.
Next on this team is Colton Colton. A creative individual with a not so creative name. He is an individual who meticulously created grudges in his trailer park causing a war to basically break out. Causing many deaths. All just because he wanted to see if he could, and he did. Maxine tasked him with targeting the X-Men back home in Alaska. And he was the mastermind behind Blob's shooting that has left him on death's door back at the X-Men's HQ. This attack was created in a manner to cause anger in the young remaining mutants back at HQ, which shows them as visibly furious.
The last two men are Grigos and Marquez. These two individuals met online after thinking that they are Skrulls who were stripped away of their previous forms. Stuck in human form forever. Because of this insane mentality they've targeted police and fire departments thinking that they are liberating earth for other Skrulls.
They were tasked with bringing the X-Men into this trap that they find themselves in. Struggling to battle out of this location and the creatures that are attacking them. But even if they escape this living ship they are inside of, the only thing waiting for them is the cold water in the Gulf of Alaska. With this long term planning, all corners of the X-Men appear to be in danger.
But there's hope
Cyclops knew this had to be a trap. The X-Men wouldn't be brought here on this rescue mission if there wasn't something else going on. That is why Cyclops brought with him this specific team of Juggernaut, Magik, and Beast. The toughest X-Men on the team.
He promises to not only find who set them up, but to get Robbins home and get to the bottom of who's targeting the X-Men.
CONCLUSION
Another good addition to the story here. It didn't advance the story much, but gave us a reason to hate the villains. Providing us with their despicable backgrounds and the much needed connections to the events occurring. Learning that every scenario ongoing was carefully crafted to target the X-Men but non-powered mutant haters is a good touch that feels like classic X-Men. Seeing Blob fight for his life sucks to see and I'm hoping he pulls through!
With the X-Men seemingly expecting this trap I'm curious to see how they make it out of here. The Danger Room team can be a deadly one if they survive the X-Men's retaliation and could be a scary team in the future for sure.
