*Nightwing #140 SPOILERS ahead!*
Trying to find the answers to why a partly eaten body part has washed ashore, Nightwing’s spiral brings him to a man who gives him a point of view that leaves him conflicted.
ON THE HUNT
While on the hunt for a man named Cannibal Colm, Nightwing runs through the city, smashing into multiple local bars looking for answers. But why does he want this man named Colm? We'll have to find out soon.
The coroner from the last issue presents an arm to Nightwing that was washed ashore. Weirdly enough, it has bite marks on the fingers. But not animal bite marks. Human bite marks that match the dental records of Cannibal Colm.
Nightwing is striking fear into everyone. Even the people he questioned in the bar say that Nightwing was going to kill them. Showing the intensity of his personality increasing tremendously as of late. But he's able to find who he's looking for, Cannibal Colm.
Colm gives his history as a muscle for Bisogni and his dealings with people like Mr. Charles Halstead, the original Psycho Pirate. We learn that Mr. Halstead actually had a hand in the creation of the terrible and deadly super highway, and even someone as crazy as Cannibal Colm knew it was a bad idea. Because of this, Colm admits to killing Mr. Halstead and leaving him in the river after having a few bites of him. Hearing Colm say similar sentiments about how horrible the super highway is leaves Nightwing conflicted as he wasn't expecting to agree with someone like Colm, especially when he was here only looking for answers as to why he killed Halstead.
This meeting is short-lived, though.
Bisogni sends his personally paid-off police officers to Colm's apartment, but when Nightwing tries to tell him that he can speak to them and ease the situation, Colm doesn't allow that to happen. Taunting the officers and taking a barrage of bullets from the police force. When Nightwing yells at them, saying Colm was unarmed, they begin shooting at Nightwing.
This is where Nightwing starts to lose his cool on the officers, landing a fury of punches to the guy of one of the officers. He continues to sink deeper and deeper into his darkness. Becoming gradually more and more violent every issue.
Final Thoughts:
Another great issue that has increased in intensity gradually. This was an issue that is primarily in place to show how much Nightwing has changed recently. The crooks in town are talking about him as if he’s turning into Batman, almost.
I'm hooked on the team of Nightwing and the Coroner, forgetting that we still have to learn what's going on with the woman from the bridge. This book has me very excited for the future, and seeing Nightwing go through such a dark time is going to feel great when he finally overcomes this whole situation.
