NYCC 2026: DC Black Label and Vertigo Reveal New Jason Aaron Green Lantern, 100 Bullets Sequel, and Major Lineup

George SerranoComment

New York Comic Con 2026 delivered massive updates for mature readers as DC pulled back the curtain on its upcoming DC Black Label and Vertigo slates. Between gritty character reinventions, creator-driven prestige anthologies, and high-concept psychological horror, DC demonstrated a clear commitment to creator-led storytelling outside standard continuity constraints.

From an aged Hal Jordan serving prison time to the long-awaited return of Brian Azzarello's signature crime saga, these are the standout comic book projects announced during the panel.

Jason Aaron and Tirso Reinvent Hal Jordan in Green Lantern: Dying of the Light

Writer Jason Aaron is heading to space with artist Tirso for Green Lantern: Dying of the Light, a five-issue, oversized prestige series launching this coming March. Described by Aaron as his personal take on The Dark Knight Returns, the narrative catches up with an older Hal Jordan following two decades in federal prison.

Jordan breaks out determined to clear his name, but readers will not see the classic cosmic superhero at full strength. Hal carries an emerald power ring that is cracked, unreliable, and operating at half power. Instead of massive, awe-inspiring constructs that level alien fleets, Hal must rely on tiny, precise constructs and tactical wit to survive. Aaron also teased that his absolute favorite DC supervillain will step out from the shadows as the central antagonist, though the character's identity remains strictly under wraps.

Kami Garcia and Mico Suayan Reunite for Joker/Harley: Malicious Intent

February marks the arrival of Joker/Harley: Malicious Intent, serving as the direct follow-up to the acclaimed psychological thriller Harley & Joker: Criminal Sanity. The creative dream team of writer Kami Garcia and artists Mico Suayan, Cat Staggs, and Jason Badower return to continue Harley Quinn's grounded narrative.

This timeline strictly avoids romance between the two leads. Harley functions as an elite forensic psychiatrist tracking an escalating string of grisly Gotham murders. Having previously walked away from the city, Harley returns when the slayings restart, forcing her to investigate whether the Joker is genuinely the culprit.

The manhunt puts Harley directly into the orbits of Dinah Lance and Selina Kyle, two women who lost people close to them to the killer. Visually, the series maintains an authentic true-crime procedural tone, heavily utilizing Suayan's trademark grayscale artwork to elevate the suspense.

DC Launches Artist-Driven Black Label Anthology (Without Batman)

DC announced a brand-new 48-page prestige anthology series built on completely standalone tales from across the wider DC Universe. In a refreshing shift, the first wave will not feature Batman, deliberately carving out shelf space for other corners of the catalog. Furthermore, the debut lineup hands complete creative control over to celebrated artists writing their own material.

Zatanna by Terry Dodson

Terry Dodson steps into the writer's seat for the first time in his comic career with a solo Zatanna story. Dodson revealed that the concept originated while drawing Zatanna variant covers, which pushed him to develop an intricate personal backstory for the hero and dissect how her backwards magic mechanically operates.

Poison Ivy by Amy Reeder

Amy Reeder delivers an introspective character study focused on Pamela Isley's mental state. Exploring what it truly means to be a conscious human that evolved into vegetation, the book highlights an Ivy who has grown entirely exhausted by humans, animals, and insects alike. When developers attempt to shut down Gotham Botanical Gardens, Ivy seizes control of the grounds, with her physical plant mutations directly mirroring her emotional state.

OMAC by Denys Cowan and Ho Che Anderson

Milestone co-founder Denys Cowan teams up with artist Ho Che Anderson to revive Jack Kirby's One-Man Army Corps. Cowan, a lifelong Kirby devotee who encountered the King's work in his very first comic, explained that while he initially eyed the Black Racer, jumping into the hyper-kinetic violence of OMAC was an irresistible creative sandbox.

Vertigo Resurgence: Crime, Espionage, and Meta Horror

The Vertigo imprint continues its revitalized publishing push with bold creator-owned projects and legacy sequels that push boundaries.

100 Bullets: Enemigos

Brian Azzarello stunned panel attendees by revealing 100 Bullets: Enemigos, a brand-new miniseries extending the Eisner-winning crime universe. The book promises to pull readers back into a murky underworld of clandestine briefcases, untraceable ammunition, and brutal consequences.

Black Tower: Crow Conspiracy #3

Writer Ram V discussed the future of his series Black Tower: Crow Conspiracy, specifically issue 3. Channeling his lifelong passion for classic spy fiction, Ram explained how the narrative merges intricate, cold-war-style espionage with occult magic.

Bleeding Hearts Introduces The Stalker

Deniz Camp shared updates on the off-kilter, character-driven world of Bleeding Hearts. Camp teased that the series embraces high-stakes storytelling surprises, culminating in the formal debut of a terrifying new antagonist known simply as The Stalker, crowned the ultimate hunter in the comic's narrative world.

New Vertigo Series Announced:

Hide Nor Hair

Created by Alex Smith and Bob Quinn, centering on an artisanal film mask maker whose terrifying creations begin walking around in reality. Attendees in the room received exclusive ashcan preview copies.

The Crying Doll

Written by Mariko Tamaki with art by Rosemary Valero-O'Connell, this period horror project takes place in New York City during the height of the AIDS crisis, heavily drawing aesthetic cues from vintage 1980s cinema.

Fanatic / Dreambound Flipbook

DC Vertigo is partnering with WEBTOON Canvas to produce a unique dual-format project. Dreambound joins the previously announced Fanatic as an interconnected flipbook exploring the psychology of obsession and delusions. While Dreambound carries stylized digital art, Fanatic exists in real time, with characters maintaining real-world social media profiles that directly cross over into readers' hands. The announcement featured a live theatrical stunt involving an actor interrupting the panel in character.
